  1. Thanks very much, we really appreciate that x
  2. We are in Singleton, WA 6175, SOR, Singleton Surfside Bakery - Home of the Monster Donut.
  3. Hi All, We came out on a Business Visa and whilst doing all the paperwork in the UK, were wholly intent on opening an Electrical Wholesaler, as we did at home. Got here & the other halfs mid life crisis really kicked in. "I want to own a Coffee Shop on the beach" Fast forward 6 months, and we now have a bakery/coffee shop very close to the beach. We are in our 4th week at the shop and our lives have turned upside down. At the moment I am saved from the brunt of it as I am at college learning all the necessary accounting/admin evils to satisfy the Ozzie officials, but hubby is in bed by 8 every night and up at 3.30am to get all that days baking done. Its a 7 day working week with long hours and we don't know when we'll get a holiday, but, we are having a blast. Heads are buzzing. limbs are aching but getting such a kick out of our new adventure!!
  4. If you buy a business from a visa holder in the same category as yourself you may not be eligible for PR. Immigration call this recycling (where immigrants sell businesses to each other) and they do not allow it, we had to pull out of a deal for that reason. This information was given by our visa agent and verified by the business migration officer in Perth.
  5. flatpack, I fully expected a ridiculous charge, what I didn't expect was to get told they couldn't do it. Tried to explain that in the UK we have CHAPS which would cost approx. $70 but they were still adamant that they did nothing like that in Oz. Begs the question how big businesses manage to operate here or am I just with the wrong bank?
  6. Buying a house here in Perth and due to complete next Thursday, went into Commonwealth bank today to arrange a transfer of the purchase price to our settlement agents - $600k. "No sorry we cant do that" Why not? "We just can't, no bank can!" Hubby asks her if she knows for sure & can she check with senior member of staff - so off she goes. "No sorry we cant do that, We can only do you a bank cheque & we'll waive the $10 fee or you can do it yourself over 6 days as daily limit is $100K" We had to take the bank cheque & this will take 3 days to clear, wtf?!?!?! So is this for real? Anyone else encountered this before with any other bank?
  7. we used Go Matilda and are sat in Oz now!
  8. I leave in 8 days and don't know whether I am excited or terrified from one minute to the next. My thoughts are this - I will go and may not like it/not work out and I will come home a little poorer and more worldy wise, but if I don't get on the plane next week I know I will always have major regrets at that. I am the sort of person that would allow the regrets to eat me up so I have to go, terrified or not!!
  9. As long as its a dolphin he sees and not a great white lol. Like the sound of the time trials, where & when?? Don't know if it would suit him because he's not the most sociable of dogs especially when he sees big groups of them at the Heath where we walk him, but you never know.
  10. Hubby and I have spoken about not leaving him for a while after we get him back but after what you've written Shona7, I'll clear the diary for at least a month. We used to have a motorhome and took him with us on our travels to Spain & Portugal, turns out he loves the beach & sea, so I am using the thought of beach days for the rest of his life, to console myself lol.
  11. Two weeks today my little Yorkie, Albie, gets picked up by the carriers for his immigration to Oz. I have managed until now to put his forthcoming ordeal to the back of my mind but I cant anymore now its getting so close. He is the sweetest most timid little dog that we have ever had & I am distraught at what he has to go through without us with him. He has never been in kennels or travelled anywhere without us and he truly is a lap dog. Anyone got same breed or similar dog that has done the journey & can put my mind at ease???
  12. Hi Paddy, We land in just under 3 weeks and are starting a business too. What have you gone into? And I see you're in San Remo, we've been looking there & Silver Sands & Madora Bay!
  13. We also fly on 13 August, staying with friends initially while we look for a rental. Also got a dog doing time in Sydney (which I'm trying really hard not to think about lol). Good luck with it all and stay calm x
  14. Waved our stuff off yesterday and have now had to phone the Movers and ask if I can come and get our passports out of the safe. I remembered to take out the money & jewellery but completely forgot the most important thing. Its just as well I remembered today as my stuff is being shipped next week. CHECK & DOUBLE CHECK your safe before its wrapped peoples!!
  15. Is this going to be a PR visa? I would much rather have one of those than the temp Business Visa we've got!
