  1. Hi Sorry its a bit short notice, but I'd really like to come along tomorrow. 2 adults and a child see you there thanks Kate
  2. Hi Don't worry, sometimes you can get more done if you have less time. It will fly by and you'll be on the beach before you know it. Good Luck with everything.
  3. My container arrives in Perth tomorrow and I'm starting to get really excited about seeing all my stuff again....its going to be like Christmas! I can't wait to see my bed and sofa the most, to have more than 1 saucepan will be fantastic. What are you missing the most and what did you appreciate the most once it arrived?
  4. Morning I moved in April as we wanted to get our 10 year old daughter started at the beginning of the new term. Once we moved we realised that the area we wanted to live in was not for us, it was too quiet and the few rentals were not very nice. Luckily we found this out in the first few days of arriving, it just goes to show no matter how much you research an area, for us it was down to gut feeling and how we felt when we arrived, although we did check out perth 2 years ago. We asked the uk school for handover notes, these were the school books and we planned to bring them with us. Unfortunately we put these in the container, but this wasn't a problem as they school didn't need to see them. We found that we liked another area close by and secured a rental quickly and could then start our daughter at school as planned. She loves it, at home the school has about 50% girls and 50% boys, but in her class there are 22 boys and 8 girls. At home the kids all play together, but here its more girls and boys play separately, I think that might take a while to get used to. At home we had lots of homework, spellings, reading, projects and this took about 2 hours a week. At the moment we are just encouraged to read each night and last week made something as part of a project. I think its a lot more relaxed here. I totally agree with hibster76 about the uniform, gone are the days of nipping to asda for a new shirt or skirt. If I had known the school colours I would have bought some uniform with me, as its quite hard to come by here. Here's a guide for you. polo-shirt $2 kmart (v v limited sizes and colours), polo shirt from the school shop $18 (this has the school design on it), but the shop is only open a couple of times a month, polo-shirt $8 from less is best (I think that's what its called) most sizes and colours. I think all schools give you a book/stationary list our's came to $200 in total, but some of the items you can get from k-mart, there are only 3 books included in this price. we have just paid $97 for voluntary contributions to the school, this came as in invoice, again I'm not sure if all school have this and there is a charge for school camp and activities. Its amazing that everything is free back in the uk, we just take it for granted. All the kids wear trainers, any colour seems ok and any colour socks, but again your's might be different. The children can only play out if they wear a hat, $16 from the school shop. One really different thing that I found here is that unlike uk schools you don't see many parents before/after school, most of the kids are dropped off outside. In the 3 weeks that I've been here, I've seen 2 parents at the classroom door, which makes it tricky to make friends with people that you have something in common with. At our old school I new loads of parents, so im finding this a bit tricky. Hibster76 - if you fancy meeting for a coffee I'm in Leeming. Its nice here, clean, v friendly and they do a lovely coffee in the only coffee shop Hope you all have a good day
  5. We booked a holiday rental for 2 weeks and found a rental today, one week after arriving. Staying in a shared home is a great option, we have a studio and its a great idea as you always have someone to ask for advice and help. The lady we are staying with is lovely and had made us feel right at home.
  6. We are staying in a shared house in Melville, the lady here is lovely and really friendly and has given us loads of help and advice, we booked it for 2 weeks. Originally we wanted to move to Bibra lakes after coming in 2013 for a reccy, but when we arrived couldn't find a suitable house and decided the area was not for us. A couple of days ago we started looking into different areas and liked Leeming, we have secured a rental today and move in next week. If you are lucky 2 weeks is ok to find a rental if you start looking straight away, but rentals are not always what they seem, the pictures and descriptions make the accommodation sound great, but in reality this is not always the case. Most of the rentals that we viewed had tenants in, so it can be hard to visualise what it would be like without all their stuff. Rentals seem much easier to come by than 2 years ago and I've heard the prices have come down as well. So out of 6 viewing, 3 had others families viewing at the same time. Someone on this site was asking about furnished rentals, I've not seen one of those, only unfurnished. I'm really happy that we stayed in this studio, its idea for new people coming to Perth. Good luck to everyone finding rentals, just stick with it and something will come up.
  7. I can't believe that we have been here a week, it feels like we arrived months ago (but in a good way) I'm feeling at home already and really like Perth. We are staying in a shared house with a lovely lady, its ideal as she is able to give us loads of help and information and is really, really friendly. We secured a rental today and move to the Leeming area next week and its got a walk in wardrobe....happy days (not that I'd got anything to put in it yet!)
  8. I had to laugh it was raining when I arrived in Perth and 2 days later it still is. Much different to uk though at the moment, light rain and you dry out a lot quicker here.
  9. Hi All I've made it, arrived at midnight on Thursday, so this is my second day here. We are loving it, really friendly people, beautiful beaches, colourful birds everywhere. Its great checking out a new area, so many things to see and do.
  10. Well guys that's it. We are just packing up and heading to the airport soon, wish us luck. Hope to see some of you on our arrival. Kate
  11. Hi everyone I'm heading for the Bibra Lake area next week. Just heard that there's a mosquito problem...any one live there or had any problems. Hopefully it's not all bad news, as we shall be there this time next week. cheers Kate
  12. hi zoe009 - I live in Lincoln, about 4 miles from town. I'm flying on Wednesday, so it's getting very real now. Let me know if you fancy meeting up for a coffee once you are settled, I'm heading for bibra lake. Kate
  13. I was just wondering what the weather's like in Perth and what time it gets dark at night. Today in Lincolnshire it is WINDY, bright and sunny with showers.
  14. just spent the last 30 minutes trying to catch the rabbit and guinea pig, I'd just got back home and the cage had fallen over....its mega windy here. I think they were trying to make a break for it, they must know they are being re-homed at the weekend. That was my exercise for the week!
