  1. Thank you Ali - your information is reassuring! BW Michele
  2. Hello all, Well we are a week away from our migration date - we spend the first few days with friends and then are moving to a short term let in Rockingham. Our Bengal Cats in Australia will be arriving in Oz the week after us and will be joining us in Rockingham. I had heard something about cat curfews in WA, but had been told they had not been introduced. We have heard today that this information may be inaccurate and that there may in fact be a curfew in place. The fact is that we will not be in a rush to let our boy out in the first few weeks anyway - not least to ensure he is settled, but also our let has a fairly major road running behind it and the boy has led rather a sedate life to date in the UK where he has lived his life in a quiet cul de sac. I am rather more minded to the future when we move on - Are there any areas that have curfews and how enforceable are they? t I have looked on the Rockingham council website, which advises re micro chipping and sterilisation, (both of which he has had done,) and registration. The indication is that there is no curfew as such, but they do advise that cats should be indoors between 8pm and 7am. I don't consider him to be a nuisance to neighbours, (I suppose I would say that:-) )but he does like to be able to come and go and loves being out in the summer months - WA of course has a much warmer climate and so we could find he becomes more of an outdoor cat in Oz than presently. If he is out between 8pm and 7am, am I going to encounter problems? Any advice will be most welcome.... BW Michele
  3. you're lucky, we have nothing but carpet treaders, time wasters and p*ss takers.. been on since may with a couple of offers the fell through due to being misled ... still coming out in 2 weeks with the house still on the market.
  4. we watch it, just to get a little aus fix before we head over.... its a bit lame really though. it doesn't give any idea of the hoops you have to just through to get visas etc it all makes it sound so simple... and then they do the price comparison thing according to the prevailing exchange rate.... oh and they look at homes way out of budget and punters give it "well its only a hundred grand over our budget... we can do that " and... does nicky bignose do her bit from her private beach while on holiday??
  5. application for permit to import is $50 transporting the bike has added around £700 to the cost of shipping our goods in the container. On landing there, there is customs valuation, GST and AQIS processing fee = $690 'temporary movement permit' (Dept of Transport) - $21. Valid for one day You take it to assessment centre (be prepared to wait a while) where they will inspect it and Fail it, due to no Australia compliance plate. Cost of inspection $65 You get a sticker which you then have to send off to Victoria (Niddrie Nameplates), another $86 (inc GST). They send you back a little yellow sticker. DO NOT STICK IT ON BIKE YOURSELF. You repeat process, another temp movement permit. $21
  6. thought i would give a quick update here. well ive been granted permission to import the bike. the form filling is fairly easy... its all done on line now so you need to be able to scan all documents and then upload them to the form. its just having your documents to hand i:e log book, mot cert , insurance cert, driving licence, passport, bill of sale etc.. if you have sorned your vehicle, get it back on the road for atleast 12 months before you intend to apply i thought the hardest part would be the statement of travel, i just wrote a bit about how and when ive used my bike. then when you have filled the form, pay your money $50 and then wait up to 20 working days. and that is more or less it for this side of the world. when it arrives in aus you will have to have it inspected for compliance etc, pay import duty etc.... il post more when ive got through that bit. right, off to clean the bike within an inch of its life.
  7. we were on holiday in mandurah. we walked into the NAB and flashed our passports.... bingo... 20mins later we had aussie bank accounts... simples.
  8. we validated in 2012... and we emigrate in 6 weeks... we have waited for michele to retire after 30 years service before we could come out... she retired yesterday.
  9. Thank you Lugubrious Duncan - we will take a look. BW Michele
  10. Thanks Ali and Rossmoyne - this is really helpful! BW Michele
  11. Thank you for your reply Jase and Anne - we have made enquiry re a property through realestate.com.au but the reply appears to have come from the owner themselves - they are offering anything from 2-12 months let, but likelihood is that we will do just a short term 2 or 3 months - it is on this basis that they have asked for money up front, passports, etc. Just don't want to end up featuring in a horror story of "the let that never was:wacko:" Cheers Michele
  12. Hello everybody, We are emigrating to Oz in November and are looking to rent a furnished property until our furniture arrives in mid January. We have made a few enquiries with agents/owners advertising such property to rent on a short term basis. Some of the conditions that they stipulate are payment up front two weeks prior to lease, passports and similar. I can understand their wish for this, but my questions are, 1)What security do we have as far as paying up front is concerned? - worst case scenario for me is that the agent/owner/property is fake - and 2)when they ask for passports, are they expecting to retain our passports for the duration of the lease or simply sight/copy of them? Can anyone offer any comment/advice please?
  13. yes, we have used them before when we rented an apartment in shenton park for our last trip out. we did ping a few emails to various property rent co's and have had some replies on how to go about things, so thats helpful. i guess over the next few weeks we shall look at it further. jen, we have been sat on our visa for 4yrs...and now chomping at the bit.
  14. we have hung our PR visa out to the last... we have to be in aus before feb 2017..... you can only apply for citizenship after 4 yrs of living in aus on your visa, and as we have not built up 2 years of living in aus in this 5 year period we are tied to the country for 2 years before we can apply for a RRV .

  16. hi, im just in the proccess of import a bike.... this is a link to read. you have to log into the site and then there is a lot of form filling online... make sure you have scanned copies of everything before you start... and allow a good few hours to do it. link https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/import_options/pis.aspx
  17. As it says really.. we feel like we are kicking our heels, the my other half michele finishes at the end of the month and i finish on the 4th of November... then we fly out on the 13th of november. spending time looking for furnished short term rentals south of the river and down to mandurah, anybody know of anything?? other than that, its the waiting game.
  18. hello, we are coming in November ... I would vote , but there's no November. we will be stopping with our friends who live in secret harbour, but will have moved just outside mandurah by the time we get there. we are not sure where we will move to.... I guess it depends on where I end up working.
  19. if you could give me some details / pointers, that would be really helpful....
