  1. Ironic as I read this that I can hear Peppa Pig in the background... About time he became Peppa 'bacon and sausages' I reckon
  2. Final reflection on my overall experience after return journey - agree with dream tripper, the service wasn't very good - Etihad staff more concerned about themselves and seemed put out if you asked for anything on both return flights.Something just didn't seem right with their general attitude to service at all. One stewardess seemed particularly rude to me for sitting in 'their' specially reserved seats at rear of flight - that was despite being told by another steward to sit down there during a period of turbulence. Singapore Airlines all the way for our next flight, especially with taking children.
  3. Thanks - for some reason I thought we couldn't bring vehicles on a 457. Just read up on iron lady imports and seems like I could.. Also have an audi a5 that I think I'd like to keep but not sure if worth the hassle / cost. Also we will need a car week 1 on arrival - practically it might not make sense...rethinking it over now..
  4. Sounds good to me ! First thing I will need is a 7 seater (5 kids) - just browsing ahg.com.au site and not a lot in market. We have a VW Caravelle here in the uk and every day out reminds me of St. Trinians with my lot...got to be practically bullet proof think I'm going to put this on the 'worry about it later' list , whilst we sort everything else out....
  5. Can I borrow you in April to haggle a deal for me when I'll need to buy a couple of cars . It's my least favourite sport....
  6. Hi Jason, we loved Quinns Rocks after staying there for 3 weeks last year in a nice holiday let. Now we are making the move in April it's been on our potential list too - particularly the bit along ocean drive connecting with Jindalee. Took a drive around there this week and still had that homely feel to me. 2 things making us reconsider though - schools and amenities for our children - thinking it might be up and coming but our kids are already there with needs now so also looking from Burns Beach to Hillarys as alternative for better schooling options, more clubs and facilities etc. (Also bit better for me really as will be working in CBD.) watching this thread for all advice with interest ..
  7. Thanks. I'm optimistic that after 2 years I can go for a 186 which is a permanent resident visa that can follow on from a 457 - just need all stars to align in the right direction and try and make it happen. I did discuss the 186 option for kick off and personal / family security etc but timescales to process are just too long at this stage. Nothing's certain I know but sometimes you just have to take a few deep breaths and go give it your best shot....
  8. About 40,000 ft in the air and Just over an hour away from London after whirlwind week in Perth.... Mission impossible almost complete with job now secured after week of final interviews and assessments. So will now aiming to be back on a one way ticket with family in April...hurrah! Sleepless with excitement, nervous with unknowns, dizzy with the journey..dreams can come true if you persist! Never give up... 1 year ago our dream kicked off with a 3 week holiday in Perth but with an occupation not in demand and 9 months of fruitless search I eventually found 1 golden opportunity and had to make it happen. It's on a 457 and I've a big family to bring over so bit of a risk but nothing ventured nothing gained ... let the adventure continue!
  9. Okay just over 4 hours left before I land in Perth and I have to say Etihad has been excellent. Probably agree with most views here though that Singapore is a better option for young kids as the crew seem less attentive on this front - perfect for me on my own not wanting to be bothered all the time....and just saying that just been offered a coffee and a chocolate whilst I 'work'...don't mind if I do! Loved the flight from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi - virtually brand new A380. Also had nose and tail cam..perfect for geeks like me. Was a bit novel and weird watching takeoff this way! Here's a shot from tail cam flying over the Dalmatian coastline of Croatia...became obsessed for 6 hours spotting landmarks and islands.... In summary if I was on my own or flying with adults/ older kids then I'd be happy with etihad on basis of price. Given I have young ones too, I will be choosing Singapore hopefully for our next 'one way' adventure!
  10. For just under a million dollars you could snap up this desirable property in London.... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/garage-on-sale-for-500000-in-london-is-this-the-most-expensive-lockup-ever-9595272.html not much of a garden to play in for the kids here either....
  11. Hi there, I fly out with Etihad on Sunday for short trip so will let you know when I return. Last flew out with Singapore airlines earlier this year and they were great with children. There does seem to be quite a price difference between the 2 so I'll have a keen eye on service from them to make the right choice when we eventually make the big move..
  12. The drowning bug is a mole cricket...bit of a pest I believe, tunnels underground and eats plant roots...recommend a pinch of salt, then toast for 5 mins on BBQ and serve with salad

And Here's one I call "views over the River Humber from East Park" ..or maybe this was the Swan River from Kings Park....I get so confused at times between the two

Ah I don't yet ... Live not far from you up in County Durham. Originally from Hull so think I'm okay to say what I think about it ( except in front of my gran!) . We have family in Mullaloo and stayed at nice place in Quinns Rocks back in January (seems like ages ago now!) - quite like this part of Perth so once house sold, job and sponsor found we'll be on our way somewhere up there I think. cheers

Honestly the Perth crime stats pale into insignificance if you contrast them to 10s of uk cities. Coventry has to be my worst experience with 2 neighbours breaking in and stealing our stuff and one attempting to beat us into oblivion (drink/drug fuelled). I was also mugged at knife point by some not so charming character one night and my wife tells me stories of another drugged up knife wielding idiot holding her housemate hostage for a few hours! However saying that I still have fond memories of the place and there are some nice areas (just been diplomatic!) .. As for Hull or Perth...hmm...tough choice that one..!
  17. Never heard of that happening so I don't think you should worry too much about that - unlucky if it did happen! whereabouts are you heading when you get there? Presume you've spent hours and days on google earth looking at the place (just like most of us on here I bet !)
  18. Good luck Emmie. Just to say my wife's first ever flight back in January was to Perth too and she was very nervous especially given she hates heights and can't go up elevators or glass lifts. We also have 5 children who were also taking their first flights....everyone thought we were just mental! The flight was superb, kids no bother and well fed, watered and entertained + my wife spent the second part of journey Singapore to Perth just glued looking out of the window and loving it. So in summary try to relax and enjoy every moment of flight as it is a great experience! ps wild rose is spot on, I've flown with easy jet and many other cheaper and smaller airlines where experience is nothing like long haul experience - We went with Singapore Airlines who we found really good.
  19. Ah slight snag with this being she has less than required work experience in last 10 years to be applicant - would have been far more straightforward otherwise....(We have 5 Children so she's been busy raising these in last 10 years..).
  20. Great thread...so new job to add...I'm a 'versatile' statistician / econometrician and just started looking for opportunities to get us to Perth ( boo neither are on WASMOL!) . Wife is secondary school maths teacher.
  21. If Perth is the dumb blond then <insert any uk town or city> must be the ugly sister - in my opinion it's like comparing a nice juicy rib eye steak to a reheated week old donner kebab.... Recommended reading for those deciding to fly home.... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crap_Towns And seriously each to their own...this thread could be off putting to some but not to us...personally I find London quite boring, seen enough green and pleasant lands, experienced plenty of European culture so time for a change.... Just looking forward to an average of 1,836 more sunshine hours a year, 12c increase in average temperature and 63 fewer days of rainfall to name just a few stats....oh and looking forward to the boring and numerous beaches, the boring outdoor life and sports, the long journeys experiencing the rest of oz etc.... A famous man once said....' Broadly speaking, human beings may be divided into three classes: those who are billed to death, those who are worried to death, and those who are bored to death' ....bill me any day
  22. Hi - reading with curiosity as I see solicitor isn't on the wa list? I've just had skills assessment back confirming me as a statistician which means I can only get state sponsorship by SA or Victoria at moment so I thought the 457/ 186 visa routes were my only options for WA. Now curious about how you get around this on a 489? Cheers
  23. BBQ weather in NE England....blue skies, sun and a barmy 18c. Summer has arrived so better not blink or I'll miss it! I've actually been sad enough to chart the monthly weather averages for Northern England v Perth and our peak maximum temp in July is only marginally better at 19c v Perths 18c. However Sunshine hours, despite our long days, are lower even through summer months - peaking just short of 6 hours a day through June and July. Broadly speaking I conclude the winter in Perth is equivalent to summer in NE England (excluding rainfall!)....bring on winter in Perth for me....
  24. Yes I think that's the rule - you need to start the build within 12 months and before this you need approval from FIRB to buy - although this sounds relatively straightforward...I'll keep on researching! Cheers!
