  1. If its your first home you are entitled to a grant of up to 2k for settlement fees, we are going through the process as we speak got a good deal on the fees. Don't be scared to haggle as there all fighting for the business
  2. Are you allowed to get a 600 visa then apply for a parent visa? Is there any restrictions on a 600 saying you can't apply for another visa onshore?
  3. What kind of issues? Could you shed any light?
  4. Not sure anyone can help me? My family have been in perth for nearly 12 months now the question i need to know is we want my partners mum to move over here in definitely she meets all the requirements to get the parent visa, now is there a bridging visa you can get for a year so then we would be elegible to sponsor her? So then that will make it two years and we would be legible to sponsor her, we would then get temporary visa for 2 yrs then permenent. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
  5. Don't quote me on this but when you get your 189 visa it's not a family visa it's per person so I can't see why it would matter if you validated yours earlier than your partners
  6. You don't need to do your driving licence straight away you have 3 months on your uk licence. When you do go to change try and get there first thing otherwise your in for a wait. Try to get a telstra sim there a bit more expensive but there phone coverage is the best. Try and get a reference for a rental you might not need it now as rental market is not as crazy as it used to be. Try not to get locked into a 12 month rental try just a 6 month just to keep your options open as you can always renew it and haggle the price and if your bringing your uk mobile makes sure it's unlocked to all networks, if you have bought your phone out right your provider should be able to give you a code free of charge.
  7. In some respect this would be a great idea as your family could move over easier and just see how great this country is. But then on the other if you have free movement there is a lot of asylum seekers that now have citizenship in the uk, some with genuine reason s for asylum but others that have been radicalised and just want to do harm to people. I can't see this getting passed.
  8. Sorry to hear you guys are leaving. @verystormy and @Plimthing since you have been in Perth have any of you been back to the UK?
  9. We would most definitely be interested me and my partner 27 and 29 our 4 yr old daughter nor ellenbrook. Been here 6 months and meeting new people would be fab
  10. Am 29 years old but had my pension since I was 16 and would rather have it all in one pot
  11. Hi is it possible to transfer my pension to Australian Super from standard life I have been in the country since May and I heard you had to do it in the first 6 months to get tax relief I am a 189 permenant resident. Many thanks
  12. We me, daughter and partner moved in may we spend 150 to 200 on food a week, 480 a week rent for a 4 2 2(don't know why as we can get a mortgadge for that but tied up till november) bond was 2000 ish. Gas kleenheat 90 a month but we will be left with a lot in credit. Electric 140 for 50 days. Internet, phone, foxtel 100 a month through telstra, water is every couple of months you only pay usage which we had to pay 43 for it. Two phone contracts with Optus 110 a month that's for both. We have two cars and put 100 a week of fuel in them. Insurance for the year for both was 1000 with aami. medical insurance for all three 160 a month. In terms of food price s there's not a lot of difference I don't reckon you will find what was cheap in uk will be expensive here vice versa. Hope this helps.
