  1. What job? Looks like your doing ok that's good is the oh going to start her own business again over here? What area are you settling in. I think that's most if us from the group over here now.
  2. When did you get here Justin?
  3. Depends what lifestyle you live most people spend what they earn anyway. You should be ok on that if you shop smart it is expensive in places but when you know where to go its not that bad.
  4. Arrived on the Tuesday saw job advert on Saturday, 3 interviews later got the job. However I then had to wait for a start date so from landing here to starting work was 6 weeks.
  5. That's the way exactly what I did I was a regional qs and have taken a job here as a project one with a view to looking around after a years experience here. Things are different so I can see why they ask for WA experience.
  6. Traffic is not the best however I prefer to live south of the river there's a few decent shortcuts into the CBd whereas coming from the north there's only 3 main roads to use v
  7. Estimator, wish I was that's one job that is in demand and pays well as well. The only obstacle I see is lack of wa experience but you should be able to sell yourself at interview stage to get over that.
  8. Pm role is different as well I'm now doing what I was doing when I started my career! Never saw that one coming and I have a degree!
  9. Do the white card on line I used blue dog in Queensland it's a national card so easy to do. Licence when your here you need 100 points of I'd passport bank card Medicare card and rental agreement we used.
  10. Yep love it been here nearly a year already.
  11. Your fine there it's more beacons field than Hamilton hill
  12. If its the one in davilak avoid right opposite the rough bit I live around the other side by the park which is not to bad but I'd avoid that bit.
  13. We are building in Harrington waters in Waikiki it is really nice down there.
  14. Rental market is dire all over Perth we viewed a tip on Monday loads of people there, a small apartment again loads there, really is bad at the moment to be honest. You have to be really proactive which is hard when your working full time. Train into Perth bout 25 mins all public transport is good.
  15. We have been here nearly a year. I've had a few wobbles but to be honest wouldn't swap it for the world now! I think baldivis is a bit far inland , nearer the coast is better just remember there's good and bad everywhere so if you like the feel of an area and get that gut feeling go for it. We are building in Waikiki , mandurah is lovely as well as a lot of the other suburbs going north. Get a car sorted and go exploring. One thing for sure is with oz you only get out of it what you out in!
  16. Well nearly a year already at the end of November, real quick, Port Coogee I work for the Company that owns the land it is going to be amazing when finished, I'm currently working on a new Dome cafe that is going there next to the new water park, it will have landscaped gardens, a marina service building, then just across there's going to be the shopping complex in about 4 years the place will be probably one of the premier spots in WA to live. If i could afford it I know what I'd do lol but with land being 400k plus for 300 sqm its out of our price range even with my staff discount!
  17. Hi we are selling a few bits due to moving into an apartment while our house is built. (I'm sure wife is just changing colour scheme again! lol) Stunning Red leather modular corner suite, cost $8,000 from Gascoigne furniture. It is 3m across the seating side and 2.5m along the chaise side, complete with adjustable headrests. A real stunning piece of furniture Will consider offers around $2,000 Single Bed with Nearly New Mattress, only used sparingly for visitors, bed is black metal frame , the slats are tubular steel and not wood making it really sturdy. $125 (Bedding negotiable with misses!) Located in Hamilton Hill, just south of Fremantle. Please feel free to PM me if you want a look etc.
  18. Get tomorrows paper west Australian always residential draftsmen jobs being advertised.
  19. Yep sure is on a single storey no scaffold at all even when roofing! Site amenities are 1 toilet that's it lol. I was on site the other day just up the road from where my house is getting built there was a joiner hanging over the edge of a parapet doing a capping detail. No site boundary fences, houses are left open so anyone can walk through until the roof is on windows in a doors on. Kids run riot on some estates, when the ground bearing slabs are being prepped all the reinforcing is just laid in place no caps or anything. Health and safety is better on the large commercial sites but its virtually non existent on housing. You can see why due to the way it's set up. Example there must be thirty house builders in Perth so you buy your plot of land then choose the builder you want to build. So every build is its own mini development which is obviously hard to manage for health & safety purposes. It's a real eye opener that's for sure!
  20. Getting registered over here has changed a bit and you can be either a practitioner, builder or owner builder. Practitioner is if you work for a developer and your the registered builder for them. Builder involves completing satisfactory financial checks etc but allows you to become essentially a full time builder. And interstate jobs over 20k Owned builder is as it says but you still need to prove competency etc.
  21. Single story 4 x 2 normally bout 22 - 24 weeks build is quick usually till lock up then slows depending on customer finishes. With regards to the other post we have added loads and basically we are getting a fully finished house with just the rear garden to do. Very high spec incl a/c spa bath larger floor tiles, painting, upgraded hw system stone benches overhead cupboards upgraded taps doors etc etc. It all adds up very quickly however it's still cheaper than buying established in the area we want to live.
  22. It is quiet over here there's no other way to say it. There is work about but it's the normal catch 22 employers want wa experience first. I have found the agencies next to useless , the jobs on places like seek IMHO do not exist. I basically went on every construction companies website and searched through their vacancies and scanned the adverts in Saturdays wa paper. I was lucky saw an advert the first weekend I was here applied and after 3 interviews convinced them to give me a start. I was a regional qs back in the uk and now I'm just a project surveyor and its like my career has started again, however I'm paid very good money the working conditions are great and the office I work in is very easy going. H & s here is way behind the uk , like scaffold requirements etc, however other than the feeling that my career has stalled somewhat I love it here.
  23. I'm here now working for a mid tier developer it's an eye opener that's for sure but money is reasonably good and so are working conditions. I'm a qs it's a bit different but you get used to it.
  24. Our base price of the house was $179 by the time it been built it cost $245
  25. In my experience most companies are not interested until your living here.
