  1. Go back about 8 years and that's where it's at in Perth!
  2. We had to wait six months but was with us both employed continuously as well. However some of the better mortgage deals required you to of been here 12 months.
  3. It's not the land of milk and honey that's for sure, it's great here but don't expect to rock up and start work immediately. As the previous poster said its a bit slow at the min.
  4. We have given up of trying to sell to be honest, just changed the mortgages over and become a landlord with the father in law looking after the houses.
  5. I went up there to buy something, to be honest I was not impressed and I come from what is deemed to be a rough area of the UK. However it is what you make it do not stress just come and enjoy it, Perth is a wonderful diverse City but remember like the rest of the world there's good and bad everywhere and dont let it put you off. I would say its in need of regeneration to be honest.
  6. Next week will mark 7 months living in oz, how time flies. Any regrets? Yep not doing it sooner!
  7. Gonna need at Least $35,000 incl dep and mortgage insurance. Unless you can get a bank who are happy to capatalise (add on) the insurance to the mortgage. If your buying land and house usually you will need to settle on land first and pay stamp duty upfront, you then claim it back once you start building. There is also another grant for legal fees etc up to $2000 available subject to criteria. With a small deposit the lending criteria changes bank west for example on a 95% mortgage require you to have been in oz 12 months and working for at least 6. Commonwealth don't and so on. If your in the Perth area I can give you the details of our mortgage advisor he is very good.
  8. We bought £15,000 with us and were ok. It's not as dear as people make out IMHO you just shop around and once earning the $ it's not so bad. All we found is that eating out is expensive.
  9. I work for one of the larger builders and we use site supervisor or manager. I think you just got agent talk tbh I came over as a construction project manager which was the vetasses route.
  10. I always pop on for a read however I must admit im more active on pio having been on there since 08. I am beginning to enjoy pp more now.
  11. Site supervisor is a more commonly used name for a site manager in the residential sector around Perth.
  12. the biggest stumbling block is the lack of WA experience, most of the firms always ask for this. I landed my job by saying in the interview that I could pretty much learn in 6 months what someone could in 2 years. It worked, another thing i noticed is they like you to be over here already getting a job from the uk is very hard to do. Also get your head round the fact that it is different over here, residential is just single and 2 storey houses, commercial is what we know plus apartments. Civils is busy at the moment leighton contractors have loads of vacancies on their website , housing is pretty slow, commercial is ticking along quite nicely. As i say it is different but once you get into it surveying over here is in my opinion much the same its just the terminology they use for example a banksman is a dogger, hydraulics is a plumber , they then have roof plumber who just do gutters and downpipes , carpenters who just final fix, kitchen fitters are known as cabinet makers.
  13. Next now deliver to oz within 5 days
  14. We have the same over here. Buy when you get here http://www.segals.com.au have some great deals.
  15. He needs to get his skills assessed there is an electricians thread on http://www.pomsinoz.com start there first just search electricians thread.
  16. Problem you have is your not over here. I had the same problem as this took the plunge got here and landed the first job I applied for. In the uk I applied for must be over 50 jobs with no success.
  17. Have you tried Leighton , broad, bgc, Doric all have vacancies online you can apply for. Also the paper on a Saturday has loads of jobs google west Australian buy the paper online. It's different to their job website. It's costs bout 6 quid to buy but well worth a look.
  18. I think they mean phone
  19. I work for a house builder but we do ready built houses which work out good value. However when we buy I'm buying a ready built older house merely due to plot size. We want a larger plot.
  20. We bought everything new over here worked out about the same as the container cost and we got new!
  21. you get superannuation approx 9% , plus a medicare levy, flood levy goto www.paycalculator.com.au this is pretty good to get an idea.
  22. a 457 is a long term temp visa (4 years) however it is employer sponsored and if the job falls through you get 28 days to either find a new sponsor or leave the country. on a positive side you can once working ask your employer to sponsor you for a pr visa 88? this leads to pr
  23. Send a message to the user called driverhire look in the job section of this forums you'll see a few of his posts.
  24. As long as he put subject to finance on the form that is fine. All you need to do is say your not happy with the finance rate quoted and therefore your not prepared to proceed. If they come back with a counter offer just say politely that Toyota offered 3.9% and you feel hard done by and therefore as the finance is not agreeable you can back out. If subject to finance is not written down and you signed you are obliged to buy the car. This happened to us they wanted us to sign so subject to finance was put in the form. This way the sales guy doesn't get moaned at if he doesn't hit targets as his answer is he sold the car and it was not his fault the finance couldn't be agreed.
