  5. Thank you Shelley, thats good to hear :-) I just remember reading about the little cracks that appeared in some wings of Quantas planes..I know they will be fixed, but this thought sticks with you when you're nervous!!
  6. Chardy, it's because it is ENORMOUS!!! How does it stay up there???!!!
  7. Hi guys, I don't like flying and am worried about going to OZ on a double decker plane (A380). Has anyone been on one that could take a minute or two too tell me what they are like please .. Thanks, JO
  8. We book on friday and are aiming for the first week of August. Where are you going to live? We haven't decided yet..leaving it all a bit late!!
  9. Hi Michelle Have a look at a link I posted under the heading 'suburb info', it has lots of tips in there. Good luck!!
  10. hi AussieMel, we live in just up the road from you in Banstead..when do you fly? JO
  11. How exciting Linda and how quickly will that time go! We are booking our flights this coming weekend. Hope to fly about 6th of August. Not yet booked any accomodation....eek!! Who are you flying with? Jo
  12. Wow, thats a great saving!! We are going early August. We want to live in the suburbs too. It's so hard knowing where to look and it seems sooo expensive everywhere! My other half will be working in the CBD and doesn't want to commute more than half an hour. I want to do voluntary work at the RSPCA in Malaga as well as part time physio. So I think we are focusing on NOR. I think we will get short term accomodation and have a month to look around. How funny that your little boy is looking at million dollar homes! Will happily let you know what it is like when we are there. I shall pm you my email address if you'd like to keep in touch.
  13. Hi I got mine certified (for free luckily!) as I don't have a colour scan. I am living with parents too, to save the money. I think it's good to send any documents that have your joint name on that can show how long you have been a couple, mind you, you are married, I was a defacto partner. We send something dated from 2006 and then current ones, such as bank statement. You won't need a medical on the 457 unless you are working as doctor/nurse/paramedic/dentist or in child care or are pregnant. I have existing medical condition and work in a hospital as physio and i didn't need one. Are you going anywhere nice for your hols? Jo
  14. Hi Just to say it depends which country you are from if you are going to need a medical with the 457 visa. There are 3 categories of risk associated with TB levels in the country: low/medium/high Low risk includes the UK and Ireland therefore you do not automatically need medicals unless you are going to work in the following: doctor/dentist/nurse/paramedic/child care center/ or are pregnant. If you are in Africa, it is in the high risk category and therefore have to have chest xray and medical. This link explains it all:http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1163i.pdf Good luck with your move..how exciting
  15. Hi Nicola34.. out of interest, where do you rent? Thanks, Jo
  16. I have just found this website. I found i really helpful so I thought I would share it..enjoy! http://www.viacorp.com/perth-suburbs-compared.html
  17. Hi Have a look at this link: [h=3]457 subclass application process [/h] It's in the bit called 'todays posts'. I listed all the documents we used on there. You only need private insurance for the initial period that you arrive in Oz. Then you can join medicare. You may still want private insurance tho, but its mighty ££££. Good luck Jo
  18. Hi I think a good place to start would be to check the skills shortage list. Also check if your partner needs to have his skills assessed. Then start looking for an employer.. Exciting times!! Jo
  19. Thanks Jim April will come around quick I'm sure. Good luck and all the best! Jo
  20. Hi Jimmy We also included 4 other pieces of paperwork that was in both our names. We had council tax letter, mortgage statement, solicitor letter and a bill. Two of them were from 2006 (to prove we had been together a while) and two 2011/12. We had no contact from immigration about our relationship once submitted. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions! Do you think you would go out to Oz earlier than 2013? Jo Have a look at these links:http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/_pdf/457-application-checklist.pdf This one will tell you if you need to have a medical, we didn't need to have one:http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1163i.pdf
  21. Hi, ours took a week and that included 2 bank holidays. Start getting the documents ready. We submitted the following: Passport copy Birth certificates Degree certificate Professional registration for uk and oz Cv One reference from employer Proof of address ie. Council tax letter, mortgage letter x 4 things as I was defacto Copy of blank cheque for joint account My other half most recent crb check Insurance You could be there by Autumn this year!!! ohh yes, don't use an agent..it's easy to do yourself and will save you ££££££££
  22. Thank you for your reply. Where would you go if you didnt have to consider schools, we don't have children so would be more interested in being near a nice gym!!Also a rental of up to $450.. Thanks!
  23. This is a great thread..incredibly helpful! My partner will be working in the cbd. He would like a commute of 30 mins max by train. Can anyone advise us of nice friendly not too expensive suburbs that would fit this criteria. Thinking NOR as I want to do some voluntary work in Malaga. We have looked at Carrine, karryinup, osbourne park Stirling innaloo, doubleview, wembley.. Any opinions on these places would be greatly received!!
