  1. If you live in Baldivis, then by the age if your kids they will go to the new Baldivis High School, the primary school that they will go to will depend on whereabouts in Baldivis you live.the alternative is to go private, there are a number of private schools in the area, but it will of course cost you.
  2. If it's the drive to pick up n drop off why not look at private schools closer to home?
  3. Can't beat the Berry Farm boysenberry port, very yummy! I think Brian cox is visiting Perth soon as part of an Australian tour
  4. I scatter the coffee grounds around the base of the trees, the apples, cherry guava, dwarf lemon and grape vine have been most successful so far, trouble is the trees are young so take time before I get fruit. I'm not expecting to get any cherries on my tree as we don't normally get the chill required for fruit to set here on the coast, having said that my boss has had cherries on her tree but I will be happy just to get the flowers. I planted seed potatoes in a plastic garden bag and they seem to be doing well so far, the biggest problem for veggies seems to be stopping them getting fried in the summer. I grew cherry tomatoes and snow peas in hanging buckets a couple of years ago and they did quite well. My pomegranite was in a large container but I've now put it in the ground and seems to be a lot happier. I have had a couple of fruit off it but squally they drop off, may e not getting enough water. If you are looking for cheap plants then try Mundijong markets, 1 st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, never yet had a dud plant from there and often get more unusual stuff(I got a lovely big night scented jasmine from there and it's fantastic in summer)
  5. I've got a real mix, when we moved in it was a bit if a jungle, so we pulled most of it out and started from scratch. In containers, I have dwarf mango and lemon, and in the ground I've planted grapevine (has done really well and had quite a few bunches last year) a few dwarf apple trees, cherry guava, a pomegranite tree, loquat tree, plumcot, cherry and olive. We be been in the house nearly 6 years and summer just gone we finally got some decent apples, the cherry guava and lemon are doing well too. I keep coffee grindings for the garden and I keep burying banana skins in there too. The soil in some parts of the garden is just pure sand, I used to keep chickens and found they helped to improve the soil. Biggest problem at the minute is the weeds popping up after the rain we've had.
  6. I believe wa police issued a statement saying that they had not had any reports of dogs being stolen.
  7. If you lived in secret harbour it is highly unlikely that you'd be able to enrol at Badivis unless your child got accepted into a specialist course (not sure if Baldivis actually has any specialist courses yet as it only opened this year). The other thing to take into account is that the student would have to get a bus from Secret Harbour to Warnbro train station and then another one from there to Baldivis. Because Baldivis is a new school people are very keen to enrol their kids there.
  8. If you are looking for admin jobs try the WA government jobs website , can't remember the address its something like jobs wa gov,
  9. If you live Baldivis they have the new high school there but at present they are only taking yr8s, otherwise you would have a choice of Warnbro High or Comet Bay, this would mean getting a bus from Baldivis to Warnbro train station, then a bus down Warnbro sound avenue to Warnbro high or further down to Comet Bay ( Secret HArbour). Baldivis is a huge suburb with lots of building still going on be awre that you may be some way from the nearest bus stop which means you might have to play chauffer to the kids a lot. Having said that a lot kids live there and manage to get to and from both Warnbro High and Comet Bay without too much problem. Depending on where you lived in Rockingham you would have either Safety Bay High or Rockingham High, in Kwinana itself you have Gilmore College. Wen do you think it's likely you would be arriving?
  10. Rockingham city shopping centre has a good range of clothes shops for teenagers.
  11. I live just off grand ocean boulevard and it is not too bad, certainly not a major road like Warnbro sound avenue.
  12. Why do you infer that people who choose to live in Secret Harbour are putting their need for a pool above that of their child's education? People move to the area for a variety of reasons, if the local school is not to your taste then there are private schools in the area with good reps such as Kolbe, Freddie Irwins or Mandurah Baptist. You make it sound as if anyone who moves there chooses to be a selfish parent. Now whilst SH is not to my taste I can understand why people choose to live there, you do seem to have bee in your bonnet about the area though.
  13. I would still have a look at the the thread on the other site as it has a lot of info on it not just about the visa process, plus I think some on there are currently going the same new process as yourself (could be wrong though).
  14. If you look on the poms in oz site there is huge thread on there about lateral transfer, my hubby is in the RAN but we did not o the lateral transfer route.
  15. No you can do a lateral transfer with ran and the serving member and any kids get citizenship within 3 months, I think they may be changing the rules to include spouses in that too (previously spouses had to wait for the full time before being entitled to it)
  16. It doesn't matter whether they have room or not if you live in the catchment area they have to take you. There is a lot of movement around schools at this time of year, term 1 starts 4th feb don't worry too much if you're a few days later in starting I doubt you' d be the only one.
  17. Are the gangs still a problem or has it quietened down? Just urious as I know that article is a few months old and haven't heard much more about it.
  18. We adopted our blue heeled from k9 over 5 years ago now, have to say I can't fault her, she was 6 months old when we got her, a friend does voluntary there, they get a lot of dogs in. One thing I would say is don't rush in to a decision, if it doesn't feel right then leave it until the right dog does come along.
  19. Waikiki is an older burb, though you have a new estate (Harrington Waters) on the inland side of Warnbro Sound Avenue) the older houses tend to be on bigger blocks.I have friends who live on Harrington Waters - all very happy there, I know others who live beachside Waikiki, again very happy.
  20. Yep we saw one a few weeks ago - weaving around like a drunken fishwife - texting with both hands and he was a P plater, so busy texting he suddenly epulls straight over to the left lane at last minute (no indicators cos obviously his knees couldn`t reach that high!!!)cos he`d nearly missed his turn off!
  21. Have you tried BAE at Henderson? I know they are very keen to take on people with a Defence background might be worthwhile contacting them by email and enquiring about the citizenship.
  22. I know what you`re saying GMB but honestly it`s not about complaining - it`s about appealing - which is something parents are entitled to do and the school should be telling parents how to do that. The school has to put the education of the child first and they are on really shakey ground - saying that though I know some schools do try to pull some stuff where enrolments are concerned in the hope that parents will just accept it and go away. The school cannot penalise the child or parent if an appeal has been upheld - they would be opening themselves up to all sorts of crossfire and most principals are prfessional enough to make sure that doesn`t happen. Oh jees Im getting off my soapbox now!! (sorry but the way some schools deal with the processes really irks me)
  23. If you have a permanent address in the catchment area they have to take him - end of! I deal with enrolments at my school and I really do not think the school can stipulate that you need need a 12 month rental before they will take him - I think they are trying it on to stop people moving in to get a place at the school and moving out again. I understand why they are doing it but if you push it with the Dept of Ed I really don`t think they`d have a leg to stand on.
  24. Proof of a permanent address is a part of the enrolment process and the schools can you refuse you if you don`t have a permanent address within the area , however you have the right to appeal that decision and in my experience the DOE will often back the parent (not always but often). It really bugs me how some schools seem to get away with not following proper process - remember they should reply within 48 hrs of receiving your application and any refusal should be in writing stating their reasons for refusing you, the letter should also tell you how to appeal. If they don`t follow that procedure complain to the DOE.
  25. Personally I would wait til you get here then go to the school and ask for an enrolment pack - if they refuse to enrol the student because you are not in a permanent address within the catchment area ask them to give their reasons in writing (they are supposed to give you an answer within 48hrs of you applying and any refusal should be in writing), make and appeal in writing to the Dept of Ed stress that you are looking for a rental in the area and that 3 months is too long to go without your child attending school - the education and welfare of the child should come first and that is normally the view that the DOE will take. Be firm and stand your ground.
