Hello everyone,

Just joined up so im new to all this folks.Anyways, myself & my wife & 2 kids (4&7) are hoping to make the move to Perth in the next couple of years, havnt started the process yet, saving like crazy before we start the application which we hope will be towards the end of the year.I have a slight concern regarding the medical though,8 years ago i had a kidney removed partly due to the fact it wasnt functioning properly so naturally this is worrying me incase it effects our chances of making the move.Iv had no issues at all since i had the op 8 years ago, that aside im a fit & healthy 35 year old.so im basically looking for some feedback regarding the issue & if it might effect my application?

Would defiantly take professional advice, George Lombard is an agent frequently recommended for cases involving medical issues. Unless there is an issue with your other kidney, I would say it won't likely stop you getting the visa granted. But at the medical would be advised to take along documentation from your consultant regarding your op etc. This way your medical can be assessed quicker as this will be sent to the medical officer of the commonwelth.

Medicals look at potential future costs, if there is no foreseen future costs can't see there being an issue, but the medical will be referred, all medicals that have anything in the medical history are refered.

My son and I both had renal investigations mine due to unexplained hematuria (which we knew would come up on the medical when asked to pee in the pot). When we booked the medical we were asked to provide the following information is we'd had any illnesses or investigations:

Nature of complaint/diagnosis

Tests/treatment etc.,

Prognosis

The Aussies are concerned if you will cost money - it sounds very much that you're able to carry on as normal. Try to provide as much info as possible. At the medical the Dr. said "there's blood in your urine" .. I told him I knew and had brought the letters from my consultant explaining the investigations, that it didn't cause a problem and wasn't anticipated to cause a problem or effect my ability to work etc. For my son, I took a letter from his paediatrician explaining why he'd been seen, the investigations and that everything was normal (he'd been on prophylaxis antibiotics for several months.

Providing the info meant that it was all sent off with the medical and we weren't asked to provide any further information.

You definitely don't want to go through the whole expensive/time consuming process till you know about your medical. It is one of the last hurdles....

I would highly recommend using an agent. They can usually give you an upfront quick assessment of your chances. I also don;t believe many will take you on as a client unless they know you have chance.

Good luck.

The doc told us at our medicalls that if you were regularly seeing specialists at a hospital, they would have to let the immigration people know. Anything handled by your gp and you should be ok. The fact you've been 8 years, you should be fine. Having said that, I'm just another person going through the process. You've done the right thing having a quick assessment.

good luck
