  1. Hi all:smile: my daughter is going to apply for her RRV, and her partner the 309/100. I have looked on the Immi site and they are both on the list for online applications. Are they able to apply online when in the UK, or does it have to be paper applications? Thanks for any help...
  2. Hello all:wink:...well I thought I would just share some info about our first two weeks back in Perth. We landed on November 2nd, after a very long flight, as our youngest was unwell the whole way! Poor thing must have picked up a gastro bug before we left, and spent the flight curled up & asking for the sick bag. He couldn't eat a thing and felt very sorry for himself. Our oldest son met us at the airport and was a welcome sight. We had arranged holiday accommodation for two weeks from the UK, and so our son took us there & we are still there now. It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks, but everything is now falling into place. My hubbie after a few days went in to see a company he worked for in the UK, and was told he would most likely be offered a higher position within the first half an hour. It has taken two weeks of chats, interviews & waiting on Sydney Branch to put together a contract, but today the offer and contract came through & it is very good indeed! So he will start work on Friday..Yay! We have also been viewing rental properties since we arrived, and yes it has changed quite a bit since we were here last. We have viewed quite a few houses in different areas, and the competition can be intimidating indeed! It does leave you with the feeling of 'what chance do I have?', but on Monday we had a call from the estate agent of the very first house we put an application in on, telling us that we were successful!!! We go in to sign the contract on Thursday & pay our bond, etc & move in December..result! I think the most surprising thing for us is the option fee you have to pay when you put in your application, which is one week's rent. You get it back if your not successful, but it limits how many applications you can have on the go at one time. When I filled in the application I put in as much detail as I could, and we also gave them photocopies of references. This is what the estate agent advised us to do when we viewed the property..the more info the better. We love the house we applied for and have already enrolled our son in the Primary School nearby. It is close to the school, shopping forum & work, so we're well delighted:jiggy:...I have also enquired about work in the local schools as an Ed & Special Needs Assistant, and they have told me there should be work in the New Year, which gives me time to get everyone settled and do Xmas!! We have been overwhelmed at the generosity of our family, friends & many people in general. The lady who owns our holiday rental has been so helpful, and now that we have to wait until December to move in, she has jiggled things around so that we can stay at another of her homes. Our close friends have let us use their car since we arrived for as long as we need it..fab! It hasn't all been plain sailing..the tiredness when you first arrive, along with settling back in to Aus and then the worry of how long it will take to find jobs & a home..takes it's toll, but two weeks in and things are coming together wonderfully:biggrin:..thanks to hard work from us as a family & the generosity and support of folk..it's all good & i'm so stoked to be back in the place I love...
  3. Thank you so much:smile:..it's always good to hear from someone who understands fully the feelings that you have..much appreciated! Terri x
  4. Well we have one week before we fly & we are nearly there with all the stuff to do..done this all before, but it doesn't matter how organised i think i am, there are always a million things to do..then when i've finished them, another million come up!!!...our house is nearly cleared and the removalists have been today to take our precious belongings to Perth..Yay!..that's one BIG job done..just some cleaning up to finish and get stuff into suitcases..our first goodbye's start tomorrow, with my Mum & Dad and hubbies parents..huge one, as my folks cannot make it across to Perth anymore due to ill health, and i am the last sibling to leave..my three brother's already live in Aus..bracing myself to say the least!!..then at the weekend we say cheerio to our 23yr old twins & their families..whoa, trying not to think about that one at the mo..it's always hard from this end, but i know once we touch down in Perth next week, which is home for me and where our youngest was born, it will be wonderful!..we have a holiday rental sorted and our dearest Aus friends are lending us a car for as long as we like:wink:..i have missed it so much & our eldest son is there to greet us..it will be good to see our youngest with his big bro again!..mixture of emotions right at this mo and i'm sure right up to when we leave, but so excited and ready to start making our home again in Perth..good luck to all making the move..it's certainly always a huge rollercoaster...
  5. Hi Pp123..Ah, i thought so..yes it is a stressful time..we have done it before, but any move like this makes for stress!..we are off on Nov 1st, so very excited to be going home & settle down..also get to see our eldest again, who is in Perth:biggrin:..take care & all the best x
  6. Aw, it is difficult Pp123..especially from the UK..it's easier when you get there, because you can look around at areas to live & visit schools, to get a feel for things..i only know about different suburbs like Balga, because i grew up in Perth and have lived there as an adult..I have e-mailed schools from the UK, when we first went back 13 years ago & now again for our youngest, and have had replies and one e-mailed me an application form, so maybe just keep trying..obviously it's difficult until you know the suburb you'll live in, but i can understand you wanting to get the ball rolling:smile:..i know Subiaco, as we have lived in Shenton Park & Yokine..our children went to Yokine Primary and went very well there..what areas interest you to live in? Are you the lady i have chatted to before, going to be working at King Eddie's?...
  7. Yep, that's how i unlocked my phone..went to the Galleria and phone stall unlocked it for $10...
  8. Hi, we are moving back to Perth in Nov & this time around we want to take our telly back with us..hubbies pride & joy:wink:..will it work ok in Aus?

  10. Hi Beth, Thank you very much for your pm. I have sent you a reply with a bit more info, but it is not showing as sent, so please let me know if you have received it. King Regards, Terri
  11. Thanks for the updates..interesting to read, as we're close to exchanging:unsure:
  12. Hi, can you pm me with some details of the job. Myself, hubbie & youngest are returning Nov. 1st, so i don't know whether that would be too late for you? He has all the criteria you are looking for & some excellent references. Thanks.
  13. Hi, this site would be helpful to you..it is Family Assistance in Aus... http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/information/family-assistance-website?utm_id=10
  14. Hi Rachel..thanks for your post and information:smile:..i will pm you when we have decided on a definate date...
  15. Hi all, just for my peace of mind i have to ask this question..we were granted another 5 year RRV in 2011 and we arrive back in Aus in Nov this year, and as far as we're concerned this is our last move..with the recent changes to the RRV being only a year at a time, we feel lucky to have been granted the 5 year visa..the changes do not affect the visa that we have been granted, do they?
  16. Hey JB..i'd love to do that!..when are you booked for? My brother is in Exmouth at the mo & had his very own whale under their boat the other day.. We hope one day to go on the Indian Pacific from Perth to Sydney..i did it as a kid when i lived in Perth & would love for my hubby to experience it:smile:
  17. Hi all, myself, hubby & youngest lad are returning to Perth in November, and we have been chatting with our daughter who is staying in England, about getting married in Perth next year. Can anyone give us some info about whether it is possible for her to get married in Aus, even though she is no longer a resident? Cheers:wink:
  18. Hi PP123..how exciting for you & your family:smile: and well done in securing a job...we are moving back to Perth in November, so i too can't wait..our youngest was born in King Eddie's and we found the hospital, staff & care excellent! I lived in Subiaco as a kid, over 30 years ago and loved it then..it has become a number one suburb now, and is a lovely area. Our children were a similar age when i first took my hubbie & family back out to Aus..we were concerned as to how they would go in school too..the eldest who was 12 at the time found it hard to settle in at first, but i think that was more to do with his nature than anything..at 25 now and living in Perth, with a good job, he says highschool there was one of the best times in his life..our twins who were 10 at the time, and were more outgoing, settled very well & soon made friends..they are both back in the UK now with families of their own, but still keep in touch with their friends in Perth..i wish you all the best with finalising your visa & your move to Perth:wink:
  19. All the best to you:wink:..we are going back in November for good & can't wait! Your feelings are very normal..as much as it is an exciting adventure, it is also a huge thing to do..my hat goes off to you for having the courage & guts to go through with it:notworthy:..i really hope in time it all starts to fall in place and you are able to settle..it is a wonderful country & i consider it home for me, but i know from experience with my English hubbie that it is time that lets the pieces fall into place..be easy on yourselves & enjoy as much as you can x
  20. Excellent thread..lots of good & friendly advice..thanks all:smile:

  24. Hi Karen:wink:..Welcome to PP..i am also a Learning Support Assistant here in the UK..we are going back to Perth about the same time as you & i am going to carry on with the same work there.. i have contacted the schools my children attended by e-mail and filled them in on my qualifications and experience..i was lucky enough to have kept contact with them since leaving and so was offered some relief work, which i'm made up with, as i know that a foot in the door often leads to other things..here is a link to WA schools online http://www.det.wa.edu.au/schoolsonline/home.do ..my son is over there..he is 25 and loving living in Perth & has just been offered a career with the Train Police..he has lived there before with his brothers & sister..i am sure your children will find their feet & make friends pretty quickly..once in work and socialising they will make contacts..i can understand your concerns, but take one day at a time as much as you can and things will hopefully fall into place for you and your family..keep in touch..
