  1. Hello everyone I had so many answers from PP before we left that I wanted to share my experience so far for people looking to make the move. We arrived on 24th January so have been here a little over a month. WE have 2 boys aged 8 and 10. It's all been very hectic so far but things are very settled already! Boys are at Poynter Primary which I would highly recommend. The teachers and the community couldn't have been more welcoming and supportive. I did reach out to the P&C facebook page and a lovely lady set up a group playdate with some other mums and kids from my boys' year groups a few days before the start of term which I think made a huge difference, especially to my eldest who is very sensitive and I was concerned about his transition the most. We used PSS removals and had an excellent experience, they came and delivered all of our belongings and unpacked it all, it was very stress free and professional service. I might add that we actually sold our house and shipped all of our belongings off from England in July. PSS then stored it in Perth for us and we rang them the week before to give them the date and time we wanted them. I really wanted to hit the ground running so we rented a fully serviced house in the UK so that we could do that. We also rented our Perth house before we got here, my husband has family here who viewed the properties for us which helped a lot and I was looking for rentals from May so I had a good idea of what was available and the costs and signed the contract for a house in December. I know that this might sound like a lot of wasted money to some but it made things very smooth for us at this end. So far I have no doubt we have done the right thing, lovely evenings watching the boys swim/play while we chat/read, lovely weekends at the beach, it's really everything I thought it would be. I know that I'll probably feel homesick and miss friends and family (I hear 7 weeks is usually a low point!) but at the moment I'm feeling very content and satisfied we did the right thing!!! If you're thinking about a move, at this point I couldn't recommend it enough XXXX
  2. Hi everyone We are due to move over on 23 rd January and have just signed a lease for a house in Duncaraig. The catchment school is Poynter which looks nice but was wondering about their sporting provision there, My boys are v sporty so would love a school which has a lot of sport going on especially soccer!! And I think this would help them settle in quickly. I’d love any info on the school that anyone could provide thank! X
  3. Also, what did they ask for for your rental, ID, extra deposit etc? X
  4. Thanks for your reply Jen. Would they not accept the lease as proof of address? Is it only utility bills?
  5. Thanks Rossmoyne that's very encouraging, I am a primary teacher with 15 years experience including management roles. I am expecting to have to do relief work to get into a longer term position. Luckily I don't need a full time position to pay the bills as such although we will certainly miss my income if I'm unable to get work at all.
  6. Hello everyone! We have our flights booked for 23rd Jan, our furniture is on its way, going to be stored in Perth until we are ready for it!! I am planning on coming over in November to secure a rental property. We are looking in Sorrento and Hillarys. My husband grew up in Perth so we are pretty set on those areas. Obviously we don't want to rent straight from the internet hence my trip over to check everything out and hopefully secure a property and get my boys enrolled into school so that we have a relatively smooth transition into life there. I was just wondering what I would need to secure a rental? What do they ask for when you apply for a property, do I need ID extra deposit due to lack of credit history etc etc? I'd appreciate any advice thanks x
  7. Yes if he/she has a PGCE it should be fine, as I said, once I'd provided my additional info it was all fine and very quick. I know they don't accept GTP but so long as you've got at least a 3 year relevant degree plus your PGCE from an accredited Uni, I don't see why you would have any problems. I had to give them a letter from my uni stating the length of my degree course and some more detail on the modules I studied for my PGCE. I studied 20 years ago and neither of my courses are offered any more so was a bit worried when they asked for this but was still able to get hold of this info. Good luck I know how stressful it is waiting!! XX
  8. Also, I've had my letter now ( and request for fees!) that took about a week to come through the post ( after I'd found my name on the register) xx
  9. Hi they requested confirmation of my degree length and also they needed further info on the modules in my pgce as they felt my transcript wasn't detailed enough. They contacted me only a few days after my application was submitted so they were very quick to look at it before asking for that. hth Lou x
  10. HI I've just got my teacher registration through (phew!) I'm still in the UK, I have the statements of service (I sent copies of them to the TRBWA with my other docs thinking that's who did the pay scales). Do you know if I am able to get my pay scale approved while I'm still in the UK or do I need to wait until I get there? thanks Lou x
  11. Ok update in case anyone needs to know!! I am on the register!! No letter or anything yet but I checked randomly tonight and I'm on there!! It's taken 7 weeks but they requested additional info which took me 4 weeks in total to get to them so I guess 3 weeks!! Soooooo relieved!! Xx
  12. I have put in my TRBWA registration documents and am awaiting my registration. Can anyone tell me how long it usually takes. I know it says up to 10 weeks but was just wondering what people's experience of this is, does it really take 10 weeks? Am on tenderhooks waiting for it to come through!! Thanks xxx
  13. Has anyone shipped over any wooden furniture that needed to be sprayed or whatever at customs? I have a wicker chair which I want to bring but I'm told it won't be alllowed. It has huge sentimental value so was wondering the approximate cost of them treating it ( or where I might find out the cost) so I can bring it in? Thanks xx
  14. When I applied they just gave me the 1 year but I have been out of the country for 13 years!! I applied on 18th Feb and it was granted on 1st march so very fast!

Yes I agree! My point is that no opinion was requested, recommendations were requested

I don't think it's a touchy subject at all, I just think that someone asked for some help on finding a service they needed and people decided to put in their opinion regarding whether or not people should use that service, I just felt it was a bit unfair for people to offer their opinion when it wasn't asked for. If you don't have any info then don't comment, I don't understand why people need to give a viewpoint on something where a viewpoint wasn't requested.

I thought this was a forum to help people not judge them!
  18. Ithanks for the reply, I agree but the reason for my concern is that house prices over the last 15 years in Perth have really rocketed due to the mining boom, now that seems to have slowed down considerably will prices return to be low again especially due to the housing building boom over that time, even more supply than 15 years ago and now people who moved to Perth for that boom can't work and so move elsewhere? I'm not there in it like you are obviously which is why I really appreciate another perspective but it's as though a false market was created there and I'm not sure how it can sustain even after the drops we've already seen.
  19. Hello ive done a bit of research on property prices over that last few years and it seems that the prices are going down, especially with the more expensive houses. Which makes me nervous about buying a property in Perth, spending 20 years paying it off and then coming to downsize and selling it for less than we paid for it. Does anyone have any market insights? We are thinking about buying something in Sydney instead, renting it out and renting in Perth for ourselves. Does this seem overly cautious? Thanks xx
  20. Hi Jen, was that because of your age or more to do with the house prices in the area you want to live? I'm concerned mortgagewise because of our age and gbp being so weak at the mo! X
  21. Thnaks so much everyone that helps a lot. I am a primary teacher been teaching since 1996 with a short stint in independent schools in Sydney in the early 2000's not sure if that's good or bad as I guess I'll be more expensive! I think it's a lot harder to find work in Perth but that's where my husband is from and so wants my boys to grow up there!
  22. Hi sdh just wondering if you did your trbwa registration before you got to Perth? Are you able to do it from the uk? If so how long did it take? Also, did you have your statement of services in order to get your experience verified for your salary? How's the job market looking after being on the ground for a month or so? Sorry for all the questions just feeling a bit nervous about the job market xxx
