  1. hello poms i was sure I would get some amusing answers... Yes it does sound a bit sad... but that was`nt what I meant of course.. I meet a lot of women who in their first conversation say, Im over ..??. whatever age, looking for something to do, and no I don`t have a social life... I meet people in all walks of life who sadly dont know many people outside their work place, and find they have nothing much in common.. ok I will start again.
  2. get the Countryman newspaper, its all about the bush... pick a town, and go ask your local newspaper shop for a list of country towns newspaper, or go on Thewest.com.au and go right to the bottom of the page on the right hand side down the bottom, and look for country editions, check through the different pages of news, they usually have the names of the papers listed there, so you can check out their e.newspapers, for jobs maybe.. just what popped into my mind when i read your post.
  3. well 119 have looked. so someone must be interested?? I nwill keep popping in every few days!
  4. HI, I havent been on for a while. I`m not a pom, but have a daughter living in Surrey, and have grandchildren living there too, . I live in Port Kennedy, work for a party plan company, doing liqueur tasting parties, and enjoying it too. I had a female friend who used to help me, but she has had to give it up. We take 4 trolleys full of fancy glass bottles to our parties, people taste them, and we share different recipes made with our products. I need someone``s help, as I walk with the aid of a crutch, cant stand up for long, so need help loading my car, unloading at hostess place, serving etc. I have been paying my ex helper % of sales. So I thought of coming on here, to ask for someone s help, she would need a drivers license to drive to 'my home, be socialable, like meeting new people. be independent, by that I mean not having to bring her kids with her, as this is alcahol, a no no for kids. Some one who isnt working, as sometimes we have to drive 2 hours to get to parties, like York, leaving here 3.30pm to get to a 5.30pm start. She would meet sometimes 5 to 10 people, sometimes more some times less. not ll our parties are in Perth.. If you wish to know anything more, or know anything else about me, I have met JackBoots, and a few others a few years ago. I am an Australian, 61, female, blond, 3 adult kids who live in Brisbane and Britain, I used to be married to a Police Officer, born in Narrogin, lived in Ravensthorpe, Bencubbin, and Northam, besides a fw suburbs of Perth.. i am looking for someone to start in January, but can meet anyone who thinks they may fit the profile asked before then... I cannot advertise the company I work for on here,,, but I have worked for them for over 5 years. anyone who applies will be given my mobile no and email address, I am on facebook too, but part of a group... help needed please.. if 2 ladies who are friends wish to share the job, we can discuss it.. for your consideration...help:wubclub:i do have a soh..
  5. I have`nt been in here for a few months , but I do keep reading your posts and also the WestAustralian, our daily paper.... so I saw on the news last night an article about this company looking for employees. Now I dont know whether they also sponsor immigrants, but others from this site might be able to help you by asking the company named on your behalf. I have cut n pasted it as it appears on the above named paper, as is.. if it helps.... if not at least I have all your interests at heart... cheers A local contractor is employing three tradespeople an hour in a bid to fill 600 vacancies by Christmas, in the first stage of a campaign to find thousands of workers. CKJV, a joint venture between Kentz Corporation and energy infrastructure company CB&I, announced yesterday it needed 600 scaffolders, welders, fitters, riggers, trade assistants and others within weeks. Another 2000 jobs will be offered early next year. CKJV construction director John Guyer said he recognised the difficulty in finding qualified tradespeople, but was confident a roadshow to regional areas, and potentially the east coast, would fill the order. The campaign will put more pressure on the home building sector, after warnings this week that construction times will double in a year because of the looming labour shortage that is shaping up to be the sector's worst. Builders this week reiterated a longstanding complaint that the resources sector poaches its workers and fails to do its share of training. Half of CKJV's recruits will work at the Henderson workshop, grossing about $2500 a week for mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation work on three LNG trains destined for the Gorgon project on Barrow Island, as part of its $2.2 billion contract with Chevron. The rest will earn up to 40 per cent more on a fly-in, fly-out roster to Barrow Island. Mr Guyer said there were 18 apprentices with CKJV, which had just employed its 1000th worker, and up to a dozen more would be recruited in the first stage of its campaign. He hopes it will eventually have up to 200 apprentices. Asked yesterday whether he was concerned that the resources sector was absorbing workers needed in other industries, Commerce Minister Simon O'Brien said he was aware that other sectors were "doing it tough". But he said the strong resources sector was ultimately "a bright point on the WA landscape". A local content report released yesterday shows the resources sector has awarded $30 billion in contracts locally since July last year, resulting in 75,000 jobs in WA. I realize alot of you arent really looking for Fly-in fly out jobs, but if all these people the company are looking for leave their current jobs to sign up with them, their employers will also be looking for replacement...s so there is method in my madness.
  6. glad to see and hear that you don`t believe everything that you see in print or watch on tv. If we were the worst in the world, or on the list, why are so many people still signing up to come here. The yanks have rocks in their heads,(my opinion) are jealous of the way we have survived the chaos that their short term money markets caused (so many financial institutions used to borrow against our $Aussie dollars when the exchange rate was in favour of their currency) Who ever heard of those Freddy and what ever banks name `sI had never heard of before, would have thought they were a childs bank account, not supposed to be the biggest. Sound more like the mafia, or sicilians, pulling the wool over the yanks eyes. When you think that all the gold in Fort Knox, had already been exhausted as they had borrowed against it and lent so much to the International Monetary fund, that their value had vanished in the last plane load of *coke* to South America... My opinion only... you dont have to believe anything you read or hear in the news..... I think that`s where I came in... lol
  7. AT least 10,000 workers will be needed for Gina Rinehart's new $7 billion iron ore mine in the Pilbara, the project managers revealed this week. It is the latest massive project that will put even more pressure on WA's skills shortage. But unions fear foreign semi-skilled workers will dominate the site at the expense of WA workers, after project operators Roy Hill applied in December to be part of a new federal Enterprise Migration Agreement allowing resource mega-projects to import overseas semi-skilled labour and tradespeople. Unions WA says locals should be trained for such jobs, because WA's youth unemployment is 19 per cent and as high as 28 per cent in areas such as Kwinana. But a spokesman from Roy Hill, which is mainly owned by Mrs Rinehart's company, Hancock Prospecting, said 2000 of the 10,000 jobs would be "highly paid'' permanent positions for Australian residents. The spokesman for Roy Hill, a company which has previously been reported as needing only 1500 workers, also said the EMA was only intended to help make up any shortfall when recruiting a further 8000 temporary workers needed during construction of the mine, which is 110km north of Newman. He said locals would be first choice for the 8000 jobs, but labour market analysts had predicted not enough workers would be found in Australia. But he said also that under the EMA, employers still had to show that workers were not available locally, before getting overseas staff. Then, foreign employees would be paid at Australian market rates and have local conditions. Also under the EMA, the company would have to provide or fund a further 2000 training positions for Australians. ``Once we're in full operation, the intention is to create 2000 highly paid, full-time permanent jobs for Australians by the beginning of 2015, when we put the first ore on ship,'' the spokesman said. ``However, to get there, over a three-year period, that's how long the construction phase goes, we've actually got to have 8000 construction workers. ``We will bring in people for a while, scaffolders or riggers, crane operators, or welders or boilermakers, they might be there for a certain phase within the project and then they go again. ``Independent labour market analysts have said we've got a whole heap of shortages all through the project and we simply just can't get all those (workers) from Australia.'' But Unions WA secretary Simone McGurk said it was frustrating Mrs Rinehart was trying to get foreign semi-skilled workers, while youth unemployment ``in areas like Kwinana ...has gone from 14.5 per cent to 28.1 per cent in the last three years''. Ms McGurk said the minerals the mining industry relied on were ``owned by West Australians and their extraction is a one-off''. ``Once they're gone, they're gone. So we only get one shot at securing long-term benefits, such as employment for our kids,'' she said. ``Strong laws should ensure that temporary migrant labour is a last resort after it has been shown that locals can't fill jobs."
  8. Let me tell you this. In the news here last week, 2 companies who have been very popular in Bridal attire and other designs, have had to close their doors to trade, as people go to their shops and try on the clothes, and then go online and purchase from Chinese designers, and or companies. So unless you have a registered trade mark or anything that will safeguard your designs be very careful what you intend showing here.... not meaning to put you off, but mind how you go!
  9. Check out the tenders list in the West Australian today? All the major companies who have on going builds, and who have put tenders in often list the extra employees they need. Also there is a section of planning and infrastructure to do with renovations etc, on Federation style homes, of which there are heaps in the older suburbs of Perth... historically a lot of them need work, and the owners, have to apply for grants to do any work on them...There is a company who mostly gets the bigger jobs, and has already done, Government House, and other sites, cant remember the name of them . But ask The major architechtural firms., that seem to do re-modelling... this is what popped into mind when reading your post. if this helps.... if it don`t well at least I tried,,,,, cheers
  10. WELL, I have been amused and interested in all your pet hates, but not worried. Of the people already here, it sound just like they are getting used to the changes to their lifestyle, and as one said, go home if you dont like it. I was born here, and there are lots of things I hate about OZ. I don`t have any choice, my grown up children live here, and I cant see myself moving out of the country, maybe to the country might be a good thing. I hate the mentality that says, YOU HAVE to.....you don`t. This recently publicized political fighting I ignored, I didnt watch TV or read anything about it in the media as I knew what ever happened I just would have to accept. You can do without the media cat fighting, without your neighbours fighting, close the door and ignore them all. Go about your business and enjoy, pick and choose what you want to do, as long as its lawful. Accept life as you know it has changed, challenge your senses to adapt . Ignore racial attempts to get you to back bite, pretend you don`t understand the words. I do. Every time some Indian sounding telco rings me I say in broken english, I no unstand, no one here I the cleaner.. and I leave the phone off the hook for about an hour... my home phone does`nt have called ID so it don`t matter.I hardly ever answer it, as having a fight with telstra.. don`t make calls , they don`t make any money out of me. but then I`m an Aussie, with half the she`ll be right attitude.. cheers
  11. front loader washing machines are more efficient, use less water, and dont take so long to do your washing. They may spin faster than top loaders, and they dont entangle the clothes so much that your clothes are mangled. They also leave the tuffs of towel in the towel instead of in the filter... I know this as I have had 3 Hoover washers, since I moved to the city 25 years ago/ The first 2 were 2nd hand, the last one i purchased new, from Myer 14 years ago, and other than having the rubber liner that goes around the outer door replaced, havent had any problems with it. My towels have remained intact. I still use a lower sudsing powder. But they tell me liquid laundry detergent may be better. Using a lower and lesser perfumed rinse or softener is also advisable, as it does`nt polute your home,,,,environment. Check them out at Choice magazine if you don`t beleive me.,
  12. I just read this article on our PerthNow website and feel those of you who are looking for rentals should read and absorb potential renters are being warned of an online scam that could cost them thousands of dollars. scammer`s have begun targeting potential tenants and victims are losing out big time. It seems to good to be trtue, a luxury home, in a great location, for a fraction of the market cost. Consumer Protection Industry and consumer services Director Dave Hillyard has warned potential renters that the scam is real (It was on Channel 9 news) You are being conned, its a professional con, a real scam that is on going. A perth resident Ms Thompson was one potential tenant conned out of $600, The scam is quite simple, using popular websites such as Gumtree and Flatmates.com. Posing as landlords, the scammers say you can`t meet with them to view the property. usually because they re overseas, but demand a payment to secure the rental. *People are spending good money on these things, and yet what we have`nt done is see the property, have`nt inspected it, and we have`nt met anyone*. Mr Hillyard said Once the money is sent out of Australia by wire transfer the trail usually goes cold. The scam is particularly efficient in today`s tight rental market. In desperation, a lot of would be tenants are prepared to hand over money without seeing the property. Last year, 220 people were scammed with almost $40,000 sent to over seas bank accounts. The latest version was an overseas student who had just arrived in Australia. This week she handed over $4,000 trying to rent an apartment in East Perth. Last year also, on the news, there was a scam which sold peoples property with out them knowing anything about it, especially if they were over seas. But be warned, Nigerians usually get the blame, anyone asks you to send money via Western Union that is usually a scam, as we do not have Western-Union in Australia. They did actually arrest a few of those nationalities and deported them.. Consumer protection says tenants should always meet with the landlord face to face, dont rely on photographs, and view the inside of the property as well, before paying anything. for more information visit http://www.commerce.wa.gov/consumerprotection
  13. MANDURAH has a 2 pronged life style, it still has the country town feel, even though it has been classed as a city for a good many years now. It has more than 20 suburbs in itself, and even though years ago it was classed as a retirement place, it has as many younger families as older ones as well. A lot of people from various parts of our *bush* towns have bought property, rented said properties out, or use them predominately as holiday homes, that being so, there are still the odd older parts of Falcon say and Furnisdale that still has some of the old weatherboards and asbestos built homes being lived in . There is a large industrial, business and manufacturing area, car trades and outdoor products like patios etc, as well as many add on buiness` like furniture and garden supplies, bore and drilling works, as well as Officeworks, Bunnings, Spotlight etc. The Mandurah Forum has Big W as well as Woolworths, K-Mart and over 60 small business`s. Quite a few of the major Building companies, have display homes, and help populate the newer suburbs. There are Mansions as well as small cottages, or (bungalows as your Poms call them) A couple of 5 star hotels, The Atrium, Sebel, and other named that you find in resort type cities. The lifestyle is whatever you choose to make of it. Fishing, Touring, (Bus charter company) House boats on the Murray, Autumn centre for the retiree`s, Over 55`s complexes. Lots of people come and go from there every day, the railway takes you to the city of PERTH in about 45 minutes Night clubs. Pinjarra is another close town with a country atmosphere, about 30 minutes away inland on the South West H`way, has Alcoa Alumina installation, (mining) A large Drilling company has its head office there, too. I could go on and on.. what else do you wish to know?
  14. flying through Dubai, be careful what you have in your hand luggage, medications and liqueur or alcohol are no no`s. as is kissing in public apparently...read carefully any and all information about that country, it might carry millionaires, and casino`s and lots of wealthy people and oil embargoes but it has some *wicked* rules and laws...
  15. thats how I started on this website... One of the ways you can do this is through browsing the 'Unanswered Threads' to see which members threads haven't had any replies and see if you can help with any questions. and the reason I stayed, well some of you I have met in the flesh so to speak, I enjoy the banter you get on here. I was reading the new West Australian supplement, Australia`s South West, published earlier this year and sent out through our state paperI was wondering whether anyone would be interested in me, sharing some of that paper`s extraordinary tales. an expensive WA tourist Bureau`s advertising campaign from 2 years ago...Mind you from what I can gather on here, you all seem to know lots about our state. some feed back would be welcome. I didnt know half of what`s in the brochure about our state having only lived in Narrogin, Ravensthorpe, Bencubbin, Northam, and various suburbs of Perth in all the years I have been here in WA (my whole life ) but am willing to share.. it all
  16. Hi Sharon, hope when you get to cool off you do it instyle. I sent you a bunch of flowers to your mobile, I hope you got them...Not sure if I will join you all tomorrow, but good luck with it. the way *poms* congregate I am sure there will be heaps there. They complain about not meeting people and then when you give them to opportunity, they don`t. Poms of cause , means like the Pomegranite fruit, has a red flush on its cheek, and that`s what you will surely find on some of the new immigrants and visitors we have in Perth at the moment. Thats where the name c ame from.
  17. I have lived in this area for more than 20 years, and when I wander around other parts of Perth , some of the older suburbs Balga, Westminster, Bayswater, Belmont, Kwinana, might look liker Bogan areas, but what constitutes a bogan area? This article appeared On the Perthnow website in 2009....ROCKINGHAM, one of WA's most maligned locations, has cracked a mention on a list of Australia's Top 10 Bogan suburbs. The sleepy coastal suburb, which has grown into a city, is loved by locals, but is constantly the butt of jokes which denigrate its reputation as one of the "bogan capitals'' of WA. Detractors cite the city's unemployment rate, driving habits and lifestyle, including a perception that it has a higher percentage of young single parents than other nearby urban areas. And the story has fired up PerthNow readers, with more than 100 people posting comments, some proud of their Rockingham heritage, others scathing of the place. For example, John of Perth, had this to say: "I dont understand why some of the people who have commented here think that being a Rockingham bogan is cool. Its simply not. Bogans represent the worst of Australia - loud mouthed, tacky, ignorant and generally white trash, whose sole focus in life is getting a big plasma tv and a large sound system. Quite frankly, Rockingham needs to excised from WA - and made into a nice little island by itself, where the bogans can inbreed and fawn over each others' cars.'' . But Jim, of Warnbro, had this to say: "I live 200metres from the best beach in WA in a quiet leafy street. All for less than the price of a crappy little unit in Subi. I can wear shorts and thongs in the pub and eat a decent meal for less than $20 surrounded by normal people with not a preening snob in sight. Long live Rocko.'' Satirical columnist The Punch has corralled its contributors, many of whom hail proudly from the wrong side of the tracks, to pencil the following shortlist - which is obviously open to challenge. In no particular order our top 10 bogan suburbs are: Albion Park NSW, Dandenong Vic, Kambah ACT, Redcliffe Qld, Wyoming NSW, Salisbury SA, Chigwell Tas, Ipswich Qld, Rockingham WA, Moe Vic make up the Top 10. but you ask our present Lord Mayor of PERTH, what she thinks of the Bogan word.... in another article on the same website she was want to mention One of the by-products of the mining boom has been the rise of the Cashed-Up Bogan (CUB) – young men with plenty of cash to splash on muscle cars, beer and drugs," the travel bible said. "A spate of fights and glassings in bars has caused many venues, particularly in Northbridge, to step up security." "It would pay to keep your wits about you in pubs and on the streets after dark," the travel companion warned. The dining out scene is also given a serve for its over-priced meals and poor service. "Where many of Australia's other state capitals might have a handful of top restaurants charging over $40 for a main, in Perth those prices are fast becoming a norm for any establishment that considers itself above average," the guide states. "Unfortunately, the experience doesn't always match the outlay." Perth's cafe scene is given a positive boost with writers encouraging those seeking a "mid-range meal" and free internet access to explore venues around the CBD, Leederville, Mt Lawley and Cottesloe. "Thankfully, the standard of coffee has improved from the notorious 'western milkshake' days." However, praise for the cafe culture did not extend to exceptional service or modest prices. It focused more on the ability of venues providing hearty, "morning-after-the-night-before" fare. Some of Perth's most popular cafes were applauded for their "all-day breakfast for Saturday hangovers", "the large, cooked breakfast will tackle any hangover" and "the bacon-and-egg burgers are oft-prescribed hangover cures." The guide also points out Perth locals are more interested in travelling overseas than being concerned with happenings east of the boarder. "Today the West Australian spirit remains nothing if not fiercely independent." "With flights from Perth to Bali cheaper than those to Sydney, West Australians seem to have less need than ever to invest themselves in the goings-on of the rest of the country," it summarised. "If it were a separate country, as some of its denizens would prefer it to be, it would be the 10th largest country in the world." City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi dismissed the bogan tag and was pleased the guide highlighted some new dining trends emerging in the city centre. "Whilst the new edition does mention the 'CUBs' it also highlights some wonderful budget friendly dining places as well as exceptional fine dining options. I am pleased to see the guide feature some of the smaller eateries that are tucked away in our city's laneways and hidden spaces," she told WAtoday.com.au. "The chapter also highlights Perth's growing small bar scene including Greenhouse, Ezra Pound and 1907, all places that are adding a new dimension to our city's social scene." The guidebook business, started in 1973 by adopted Australian couple Tony and Maureen Wheeler, is one of the biggest in the world and its opinions set the standard for backpackers across the globe. so too different cultures are represented there.. bogan..... Not bodgies and widgies who were part of our culture in the 1950, and 60s... think of some of your more seedier towns and cities in UK, which we see on news websites... like the burning and setting fire to business in July last year... we don`t really have those sorts of things happening... our news websites report things like Northbridge shenanigans, but I ask you I even question the mentality of reporting things like that, there are millions of things going on in every suburb and town in this state, and they only sensationalize it because they are too lazy to go out and look for newsworthy articles. I am ashamed of our reporters, that they have to do things like that to get their newspapers and websites, ahead... shame shame shame.. dont take any notice, come out here and make your own mind up... look at weloveperth, perthevents, whatsonin perth, all sort of other places that report the fun you can have here... leave your prejudices behind, we cant all be wrong..
  18. The Kwinina recreation centre used to have something like that. was very popular, and was mostly frequented by families... Not many Drive in theaters left in the metropolitan area unfortunately, Dvd`s and video clubs ousted them. Had a bit of a laugh to the thread before me.. was that an invitation to meet people.
