  1. Cnc programmer, Project Engineers, Project planner, struMIS Engineer,Expeditor, Robotic Engineer, Robotic Operator, Boilermakers, Welders, Laggers, Carpenters, Steel Fixers, Formworks, Sheet Metal Works, Civil Estimator, Contracs Administrators, Project managers, Blue Collar recruiters, Payrool officer.??? all these jobs are advertised as being needed by a company advertised on the back page of todays Sunday Times Reader`s Mart,26th June 2011, by a civil construction and Engineering firm whose large new establishment was officially opened by our Premier, in April. They are promoted like the best and most advanced proficiently planned employment company, poised to provide a huge range of services for almost all the new work-sites to be established in the very near future in the North west of West OZ. Providing services for mining, construction, oil and gas. With all the Chevron, Browse Basin, and associated infrastructure having to be built from scratch, they need a colossal amount of employees to do it... I have only read half the speel on the company, but thought to share it with you all, for those who may be qualified and needing somewhere to start to look. They say apprentices are important to the growth of their industry, so they are undertaking to increase their intake of those as well...... if this helps
  2. I was told the long term parking at the airport is ok if you are going to be away for 3 week or more, as the day to day parking charge will be over $55 , but if you take a taxi to the airport and one when you get back, the costs will be more, so work it out. Lots of companies leave their vehicles , and lots of fly=in-fly-out guys do too. so it must be safe. The cops check it out occasionally I am told, for stolen cars as well... surprising the amount of those they find there..
  3. hope the sun shines for you as you arrive.....from one sandgropher to another!
  4. Hello, I live in the area bounded by Chelmsford Avenue and Grand Ocean Boulevarde. I am endeavouring to get a group going, for coffee mornings, arvo`s whatever, Mondays or Tuesdays, for people such as you! Jack boots and I have been talking about meeting up sometime soon. I am a grandmother, but my girls do`nt live here, but don`t hold that against me. I have been helping people all my life through moving around this state, as other people have helped me.. If you answer this I will private message you with my details!
  5. hello, sorry I missed your fundraiser, maybe I can help with another one in the future! I have never been in your predicament, all my children are safe, although I lost 2 as *seeds*. please add me to your list, and maybe you would like to join me one day , when I have coffee or tea with jackboots, I am alert to new friendships. cheers RobyntheRebel
  6. I have never been to Britain, but whenever my Mother-in-law, who comes from Grimsby originally, was going to and from Britain, wanted to exchange money she, used to go to Thomas Cook, if that still exists I would suggest that.
  7. Well just about every town, city in the world has trouble, and I am afraid , the news papers, like to spread it all around. You would think that in a large city such as this that there would be better news. However, saying that, the websites you should be looking at are, spread over lots of places, like the west, our state paper, which has down at the very bottom of it, a list of other things to read, business , etc, but over in the right hand corner, among other things are country newspapers, that are published with help from the west. I lived in the bush, before I moved to Perth in 1984, so towns I lived in were, Narrogin, where I was born, Ravensthorpe (gold and copper mining, now lithium, nickel, farming, tourists,) Bencubbin (shire of MT Marshall) barley growing for the beer industry, wheat, lupins, sheep. Northam, railway town, at the junction of Great Eastern H`way, heading to Kalgoorlie, and Southern H`way, which goes all the way down to Albany, so go read some of those papers, and you will see other cities who have a life of their own. I wish that sometime in the future people will tell the newspapers by not buying them, that we are sick of only reading all the pessimistic things, surely in this big state there are less, slander, angry boys and girls wanting to get their names and photo`s in the paper, for stupid things they do? but in every country its happening...... hopefully we will have a better half of the year... if it rains they might all stay home, but I wouldnt bet on it...
  8. I hope you ladies have`nt left off talking on this thread just because I put one on about having a function with you all. I had`nt done anything about it for a while as I had been committed to saving my pennies, for the combined 100 year birthday bash my family came over for last month . My daughters 40th and my 60th, took lots of time to organise with 3 families spending time and energy, both here and at their Dad`s.. I am hoping to get some feedback, as to whether any of you besides the one or two who have already remarked on my idea. I do hope to meet some of you, before the event, and hope when you get a PM from me you will reply. I am not really a *pub* person, I do hate to walk into a place like that, and not know anyone. please tell me either on here or in the Xmas in July thread if you would be interested in attending. I do intend to have one, even if its just for my other friends who are Aussies. thought for the day * there is pleasure in new friendships, comfort in old ones, and sweet memories to treasure in those we`ve lost.
  9. I am afraid to say that it all depends where you live, as to what mobile phone system/network is good for you! Not every suburb works well, depends on metal infrastructure. Tin or metal bounce the signals away rather than too your mobile. For those who live in an area where homes with colorbond rooves, you may find it fragmented...It all depends where the towers, used by the carriers are! the national carrier is Telstra, but I have friends who tell me its costlier than other systems, there is also Optus, Virgin, Vodafone and 3g( I use that one as I find its not so problematic, since it joined with hutchinson 2 years a go) .My mobile is through the European network of Vodafone, so its not so problematic as the Australian/ there is a site called whirlpool where you might find more up to date information on which one to use. a lot of the IP (internet providers ) also have their special ones, to help you get communications going. You will probably find most of the younger people are using all the Iphones, but I find that they are too intrusive,(letting everyone know what you are buying, and where you are going everytime you leave your home. probably every time you stop for a pit stop(wc) as well. there are a lot of mobiles you can buy as pay as you go, or unlocked as well. if this helps:jiggy:
  10. King`s Park, on a Sunday, especially the days during spring they have the guides. showing you all the wild flowers, in as close as their natural bush/habitat. Cohuna Wildlife park out near Armadale has emu`s koala`s etc. there is also a small Zoo down near Ravenswood, or Pinjarra. But sometimes on a Sunday there are concerts at Ravenswood near the river, there is a small cafe, can`t remember its name, but I have watched and listened to an Irish Band playing one Sunday in March. Lake Leschenaultia, out in John Forrest National Park, not a salt water park, small fish have been introduced into it to keep down the mosquitoes. Mundaring Weir, up Greenmount hill, the largest and also an engineering feat, pumping water from Perth to Kalgoorlie, invented by CY O`Connor during the early days of Perth,. All our Water supply dams are done up as tourist sites. Canning dam is also a city supply . Wellington Dam, down near Collie, supplies a lot of the great southern towns & farming areas with scheme water There is a hands on teaching facility down here in the Rockingham area, near Lake Richmond, run by conservationist, volunteers, people might like to go do see some of the natural environmental specimens. Penquin Island Tours, and Dolphin watch, sometimes you get the dolphins splashing around anyway, so ask when you go to book the PI tour, you might get them for free.(the dolphins I mean) Pinnacles, (petrified trees, salt encrusted) north of Perth. There used to be Koala`s at Yanchep National Inn & park, but I have`nt been there for years. Wave rock out near hyden, over 450klms, is also a monolith, (giant granite rock) and has the local water supply on the top of it. You need height to make water pressure for a town supply, so they generally use the monoliths`s. For those that like Monolith`s there is one in WA Larger than Uluru (Ayer`s Rock in Northern Territory) ours is called MT Augustus, out in the hinterland from Geraldton. I know a bit about the water supplies of WA as I used to work for the W A Water Supplies, country branches. We also used to have a small private railway tour, called Hotham Valley Tours, but I haven`t heard it mentioned for afew years. But look around on the WAtourist bureau site there are problably other places none of us locals use as we are not tourists..
  11. I have been thinking of a get together for all you new and old *Poms* in this area, for a while. I am NOT a pom, but have been informing all and sundry about lots of things for and on behalf of WA for about 14 months now. As so many of you have arrived and are still asking about making new friends I have decided to make you more welcome by hosting a Xmas in July party in my home, on or about 23/24th July. Whether it is a day time or a night time hosting will be decided by you all, with jackboots, and I (hope she does`nt mind me using her in that way)as the judge. I have had large and small parties here for years, the largest attendance was around 89, within 2 years of moving here, from central Rockingham, so I am quite prepared and knowledgable without having digested a dictionary, of what could and should be happening at a Christmas party in July! If it is a day time party, you will be bringing your children I suppose, there is a park close by,with play equipment , that some teenager might volunteer their services to watch over your older children, I have some not many kids toys for younger ones, (under 10). if its a night time party, no kids, only adults but you will all make that decision yourselves. it will be a red and green and gold theme,(wearing those colours) anyone can come in fancy dress, I will be wearing a hat only, it will be *bring a plate* and for those who have no idea what that means, bring some food on it, not just your thumb! It will be bring your own, sense of humour, smile, and limit your alcahol to 1 bottle or 6 stubbies, as I don`t plan on letting too many of you get drunk, as you will be driving home afterwards. I am giving you locals, an opportunity to get together, meet and greet, in a social way, no pressure, in a home, (large enough to cater for over 50 people and still leave room to swing a cat) no tigers needed I will take acceptances right up until 25 minutes after the party starts, or refusals the day after! anyone interested please PM me, or leave a token on here. I am very interested in all your comments, if there is anything I have`nt said here, that you consider necessary please leave your message. I am a responsible woman, with grown children, I am well known in this area, having been married to a Police service person, my kids grew up in this area, and I plan on staying here for afew more year. If you consider that this thread is not what you want to see, I won`t be offended, if it does`nt happen.... just giving you all an opportunity to make friends and maybe enemas` in a social sort of way:wubclub: I come in peace....
  12. I am not predjudiced but I also have spent time living in the Northern Suburbs. Noranda on the edge of Morley, and South Guildford (airport area) when we moved here from the bush (Northam) I found that people north of the river, are always, so it seemed to me, in a rush, to get anywhere, school, work, shops, and other than saying *hi* in the driveway, before getting into a vehicle or out of one , hardly any seemed friendly. But you have got to take into consideration, location, from beach, railway or bus terminus, what sports etc you and your family get involved in, whether you can`t exist without having a shop of any kind within 5 miles of you, that sort of thing. What you do with your leisure life, also makes a difference to where you live. When your children are involved with either footy, soccer, or rugby, hockey, basketball , all these sports will make an impact if for example you have to drive from Rockingham to Joondalup sports arena for a game starts at 7am on a winter morning when its foggy, driving in peasoup fog is something you might be used too,but others cant seem to get the idea you have to start half an hour earlier to get there on time. If you like steaming in the suburbs, or the hills make your day, or being cool at night in summer (remember we have temperatures around 98 degrees, or 40 celcius) that should also make you sit and contemplate your navel before you decide where you want to live. I find in the summer when coming down the freeway, as you pass Kwinana or Thomas road interchange, the atmosphere gets cooler, and once you are down nearer the coast it does get at least 10 degrees cooler. its also not so cold as in the centre of the city. look at a temperature guage or weather map of the months last year, before you plan where to live. I like the slower pace we have down here, so many people are`nt in so much of a hurry, but then I know most of my neighbours!
  13. hello Jackboots, and everyone else:biggrin: not done much lately since my 3 daughters have left me again. 1 to return to her hectic life in East Wimbleton, an accountant for a largish charity...the other 2 returning to their lives in Brisbane, complete with my 4 grandchildren. I won`t see the last 2 families until Mother`s Day next year! I go over for just that reason. I had a hectic 18 days with them all, even though they came for a combined birthday and a neice`s wedding I only saw them really for 5 days, so many friends and other families for them to catch up with.. I have been toying with an idea for a get together with some of you from down here , and any who think they might want to.... a Xmas in July, I have catered for large parties in the past, but almost given up on entertaining the last 8 years, so depending on who answers this thread , I will work out whether anyone wants to come... it would be a colour theme, red and green, not blue and white which is what you lot have at xmas... So if I get enough of you in here saying you would like to come I will put it on a s a thread and open it to all comers. I will not restrict it to only Ladies, but the general public. I am not really a *pub* person is why I have not attended any of your Whistling Kite get togethers, even worse, hate walking into a Pub and not knowing anyone. I am not ashamed to say that I used to meet and greet people most of the month, at other peoples homes, as I used to do quite a bit of market research, knocking on peoples doors, in Mandurah for about 8 years, asking those sorts of questions you complain about with the telephone callers, but I have always preferred face-to- face interviews where you can read a person`s body language as to whether they will take part in my surveys . but I`m not doing that here! I will put a picture on my profile here tomorrow when I work out how to do it..
  14. This is not really a forum suggestion, but so many of the younger element of immigrants come on here, asking about meeting new friends. I suggest that foremost you should have a post pointing them all, one and old, to your page on facebook... I do know you don`t like anyone pointing people in other directions or to other websites, but as a lot of people use that social site to catch up with friends and new faces, is why I suggest you have that link. That way all of you with facebook faces, can then see what you all look like, as its bad enough that we are all faceless entries, but with that website you all have a better idea who, what where, you all fit in.... A face makes a better impression and less of being just a name.. I will try to add mine sometime soon... am not on my own computer mostly when I come in late at night I am not doing my own thing (helping writing a book = editing on someone else`s computer)!
  15. Us Aussies usually use WEbjet dot com dot au to check out all flights as they do a very good comparison , on all days and all flights.... I use it to check what price and then go and book with the company I choose...comparing australian flights, havent tried it with international ones.
  16. I would have suggested going to our state Museum but apparently the powers that be have demolished it... Having seen a series on ABC1 about your natural history museum and learnt lots of things I didnt know, its a pity our has bit the dust... They were old buildings in Northbridge around near Alexandra Library.... well wait for it to be re-built. There is a Maritime museum in Fremantle, a railway museum out in Ashfield/Bassendean where a lot of old railway carriages and stuff like that is stored. There is also a Fire Brigade museum, in East Perth I think.not sure if there is a Police one yet... I have just got my latest Horizon magazine which members of RAC roadside and insurance get bi-monthly in which it lists things that are on, around this city and in the state. Not sure if they are all free though. 17-19 June Hillarys Antique and Vintage Fair. Hillarys Boat Harbour. orienteering Sundays June & July... various bush and farm locations, check out wa orienteering asn au Mountain Designs Adventure Race Australia, 24 July Nanga bush camp & forest retreat Dwellingup. 25-26th June York Gourmet food and wine festival. A nice run to the town of York. Lots of stalls from people who are into that type of food, there is a car museum, for the guys if they are bored with checking out the food. some of the cars used to be in the WA museum. 19th June Mandurah Jazz club meeting at the RSL club Mandurah..if you want the phone number, ask me for the contact no. 24-26th June Everywoman`s Expo, Perth Conventions centre. Ladies especially might want to escape the humdrum and roll up there. look it up on the convention centre site. you really should consult the magazine in the West of a Saturday, where lots of things I wouldnt know anything about are mentioned, some different ones every day of the week.. Of course you just missed the Bell Tower open house yesterday. and The Pinjarr a Festival and the Ideal home show... There is Sunday Trading at Karrinup Shopping Centre next Sunday in aid of VarietyWA, Telethon and the Heart Foundation.. There is an exhibition of Australian wildflowers painted by.Melbourne artist Christine Johnston continuous to June 19th at Greenhill Galleries , Claremont FREE Cloudscapes Meditations on the Mystical @Elements Art Gallery in Dalkeith,on till next sunday. free wed Sugarpuss with DJ Reece York at The Bird Northbridge 9pm to midnight free lots more exhibitions of artists and such too numerous to mention til sunday all around Perth. if it was wintery weather it would be somewhere to escape the winter. .
  17. My sister lives in Canninvale, where you go down Warton Rd after the Golf Club, and it takes me around 35 to 40 minutes to get there from Port Kennedy, going out via Safety Bay rd to the freeway...... so doing it every day would be a breeze, but I warn you if you have to start work about 8am, it pays to go about 20 minutes earlier, as sometimes the freeway is chockablock. I get off the freeway at Rowley Road, go straight down to Nicholson Rd and then take the roundabout at Warton as I said. But other`s would tell you to go to Thompson Lake, near the Gateway shopping centre and get off there and double back to Warton down Armadale Rd. But I don`t do it daily, just once or twice a month...If you check out some of the subjects I have covered since I joined this site, I have left some descriptions of suburbs that are part of Rockingham, the city! cheers
  18. Hello, so how many actually took the time to attend this outing? anyone? As there has`nt been anything on here about it I wonder if it actually happened. Did you know that there is actually a club called Meet-up, they happen all around the world and they were started by *Poms* I think.... if you look back before september 2 years ago on this site, on the expats threads I think, its been advertised on this website.. they have regular meetings... if that helps!
  19. with the onset of the cold weather, I suppose some of our new citizens, have brought the cold with them???:wubclub:You could have left it there for a few more weeks,,,,,, but then you are used to the cold better than us, we have spent the last 5 months trying to get cool.....now of course the heater will die trying to warm us. This weekend is when we celebrate the Founding of WA, hope some of you have been out to Woodbridge an historical home near Midland. We do have a few of them still standing and being looked after by the national Trust. Our Government House also is open on some weekends like this one, so people can look at our past, and see what Your old country has donated to ours, for the benefit of *The Royals* when they visit. I only just managed to view it a couple of years ago...:jiggy:There were displays of old cars like Jaguars, and The Morris Dancers, put on a show. Highland pipe band also did some music and traditional highland dancing...Our local government societies, put forward names of people who have volunteered their services to the advancement of this state, so there are awards and speeches etc. cheers
  20. We don`t have theme parks in this state any more really, not like the one is it in Chiswick, or some place like that my daughter went for a job there when she first went to Britain. They told her as part of her job she had to get to know every part of the park, and do the rides as well., She answered that she had a height problem, so as long as someone followed her with a few buckets, she would do it....... she never did do the rides after all. She was a temp in the office, doing accounts... We used to have a Lion park out near Yanchep.... and there was one called DissyLambPark out near Wanneroo.... but as I was still lving out in the country at the time they were working, I never saw them... There was also Water feature place near yanchep, called Atlantis, I think Alan Bond, a millionaire type financier had put some of the money up for it. It was as popular as those types in other countries. where the Dolphins are used and taught tricks.,contrary to their nature really.... Animal welfare changes in laws helped it make ademise. We have a type of Zoo at or near Ravenswood, near Pinjarra, I`m not sure actually... We also have Marapana Deer park out near Golden Bay, but as the changes to the freeway have encroached on its park theme its moving back to some area outside Kwinana. We have a type of Stonehenge down near Esperance. There also used to be a type of outdoor, enclosed Aviary at Bunbury, called Bird world, where you could walk through, feed the birds, of which some would land on your hand while you fed them. There used to also be a Castle Park near Mandurah, but I think its been replaced by some miniature village park with railway and some play equipment, off Husband road off Pinjarra Road out towards Yunderup... We also had a equestrian Austrian horses exhibition centre out towards Northam.. you might note I keep saying we used tooooooooo......new redevelopments, progress and the cost of keeping them going all helped them to fade away. Plus the government made more money out of the land being turned into urban development..... but if any of our new *citizens from POM* would like to try their hands at making some new theme... please do so... anything would be better than watching paint dry,. or the Premier of this state making a mockery of footy stadiums....and the like...??????
  21. not sure if this will help anyone in the IT industry, but on the iinet page on facebook, they are looking for some specialist manager... iinet, the 2nd biggest ISP in Australia. This company was started ny a guy in his garden shed out near Wanneroo,/North beach road. last century.. They have offices, and work in New Zealand as they bought IHUG a few years ago. They also own/ share westnet, who also sell their services online around Australia. This morning when I rang their technical offices, I was answered by someone in South Africa.
  22. quote of the day, sorry was distracted earlier or it would have been up already! Its not important how women friends met or where they came from: its the places they go together that matter!
  23. With thoughts running through my head about friendships with women, and those who need a *Thought for the day* I rummaged through three boxes last night to find my *Friendship calender* which I got a few years ago. May 31st Girlfriends offer the wonderful gift of perspective.... the picture on that page, is of a kitchen counter, with some lemons in a wire basket, some poetry books, and a pile of alternate reading, including one whose cover I can read, *Lady Chatterley`s Lover*, a vase containing some ranunculiis,(flowers sort of daisies) and an empty tea cup and saucer..... to complete the picture. can you imagine that!
  24. If you live in or around Rockingham area, there is a company, woman who works from home, who design swimwear, for the individual. I think the name is Daneesh or something like that..if that helps, or look at undercoverwear dot com dot au sold online and at home shopping parties. The consultant may have a sample in your size, they carry most sizes. If that helps???
