I have a girl friend from Scotland came back to W A this month as it was too damn cold over there, after she had lived here nearly 35 years. I have been looking on line for lots of places and things for her to do, and found this on facebook. A fundraiser day for Women only.... a bit of pampering, nutrimetics, boutique,a clairvoyant, beautiful candles, (wicked wix )and beauty products, waiters in bow ties, (not wearing g=strings though ) pre-sold tickets. lol.... I will try to paste the flyer here... The variety club of WA local branch are putting it on 5th February at an upmarket place out in Baldivis, Fletcher Rd, Peel Manor House, , the setting might make some of you nostalgic for home, but the setting is beautiful. Look for it on facebook. Girls day out...variety club of WA. cruising car club. or look for varietywa.org.au and cruising car group (old cars pre-6-`s mainly, chevs, dodge, etc. My old car is tooo new, Rambler rebel station sedan 1968, to join etc... anyway somewhere to to to make and meet new friends women, who love to be pampered and spend time together... If you dont have avalentine of your own, you can find happiness there maybe to help you start the year off better.... cheers

  4. Best wishes for the festive season to all you Pom`s . I have had the best new`s from the *Pom * in my family. My daughter works and lives in London, for a large charity, Lifeways I think its called. I will become a grandmother again, during 2012... Funny enough my younger sister`s daughter is also having a baby next year in the same month as my daughter... her first, our 2nd. The reason I first joined this site was so I could help you *poms* as I have a daughter living in Britain...so many questions had been asked and never answered.... so here I stay. welcome to all who are coming, have arrived and maybe are thinking of moving to the best country in the world.. we have shown the rest of the world how to cope with disasters, employment, and monetary problems... enjoy and learn my friends.
  5. so pay-tio for patio...which is actually the alfresco rather than an open uncovered outdoor area Patio is of course an outdoor meals or bbq area, built of metal, Pergola is the same but built using wood and shade cloth. They are definitely different. Bottle oh, might now be used for bottle shop, but last century it meant the guy who bought your empty beer wine and spirit bottles, to return them to the manufacturers or the suppliers to be refilled. How do I know that? My Dad was one down in the great southern at Narrogin...He made quite a good living at it too. Purchasing the 26 fluid oz empty beer bottles, and returning them via Westrail to Perth glass manufacturing and the Swan Brewery. he had lots of customers in towns such as Williams, Wagin, Wickepin, Pingelly, Cuballing, Yornanning, Darkan, and Noman`s Lake. The last is a farming area, where the pasturalists had a definite taste for the beers, He used to go out there every 6 weeks and collect a full truck load of 60 dozen empty`s..They ran a Tennis club, and cricket club from their property, The Carmody`s and were full on in the winter too.... 5 families in the same business, growing the barley for the Swan Brewery.
  6. Always take a bottle of white or black vinegar wth you when you are going to the beach! And/or some pure lavender oil, as that is also something you can put straight on burns and stings without diluting. It is also an antiseptic , look up its qualities on any naturepathic website. When purchasing block out or suncream try to go for the 50+. Woolworth` s have one, which is perfect for this, and it has a good reputation. No use buying some that are soooo expensive that don`t work. There sun screen products have always got good ratings by Choice Magazine and research (company does comparisons on anything and ev erything) They put a magazine that you can read at your local library.
  7. I drove up to Northam, which is about an hours drive from Midland... A friend got married in November but i couldnt attend her wedding as I had a month of very busy parties. So combined a drive and a visit before xmas. Its 287klms from Port Kennedy. If you have a new model car with an Overdrive gear on, you have to let it off to get up Greenmount Hill. Surprisingly the road wasnt so busy on the way up, mostly Woolworth delivery trucks (refrigerated ones) 3 and people returning from shopping trips to Perth, judging from the trailers full of furniture and packages. I enjoy country travel as I grew up in a country town down the great southern railway Narrogin, 291klms from Perth down Albany H`way to Williams, that little town that got flooded last week, then inland 28kls. The Christmas tree`s were very colourful, grey foliage trees with a yellow/golden /orange flower on, are one of our native trees, you will see out in flower at this time of year. They only grow in pockets of silica infested soils, not all that common really but closer to the coast and out about 60klms.. dryer parts of WestOz. The weather was warmish, but not that harsh hot sort of pocket Northm gets at this time of year. I used to live in Northam about 20 years ago, 4 pubs, a very long main street. The Avon river flows through it to then become a tributary of the Swan river out near Mt Helena. there endeth this monologue of geography.:bells1:hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather and sunbaking on the beach!
  8. This has been a law that has been *taken the micky* out of for years. Its only since we have been in Perth Metropolitan area thatI know its been more noticeable that people are abusing the law! Its really to stop Yobboes and riff-raffI from making a nuisance of themselves at Australia Day functions and Music concerts that thousands of people attend that police and security personell are needed to contain, drunken fights and bad mouthing immigrants from more diverse countries , which I won`t go into here. Do not go out in a boat of any size with alcahol, and get a Skipper`s ticket if you plan on getting a boat, as there are also rules and regulations for where you can take different sizes boats in all the Fishing boat harbours.. You need the maps with all the navigation lights and warnings marked on them to be able to navigate your way out of some of the parking area`s too. Thre are various laws, that are common sense though that some people take advantage of... Did you know that to catch fish in any of the dams, rivers and beaches, you need a current fishing license, and there are also various fish at different time of the year you are NOT allowed to catch even if they are the only ones you are finding on the end of your line , the only time you go out. A friend found lately that you cannot catch Dhufish in December. I did`nt know that either... but then I`m not a fisher person really. If you are fond of abalone you need a special license to catch them too. Schnapper is another fish that has a restricted season too. Even though lots of people catch them in cockburn sound. The fisheries and wildlife wardens are allowed to confiscate any that are illegal. You cannot catch or fish for prawns and crayfish after 1st April as that`s their breeding season... enough for now you think??:arghh:

It might have been better if someone had told you to look for rsl (which stands for returned services league) clubs around Perth, Rockingham and various other places. they welcome membership from other people besides aussies. Of course, the members are mostly elderly or ex army, navy and air force members from our Defence services who have current deployments, or have retired... some of the army guys in Oz leave the services when they are 47 or there abouts. Yes I got off the track a bit.. 2 RSL clubs I know of are, Rockingham in Oleander Drive out near Pt Peron, (near garden Island Causeway)and there is one in Port Kennedy discovery drive I think.. but there you go....

  14. Funnily enough I am heading out to Byford on Monday afternoon to interview a woman who lives , so I will try to ask her all those relevant questions, if you add more I will find out what I can for you! Byford is a small town that has been nestled in the hills, but as I understand it, its taken on a new lease of life lately as more people have discovered it. Its a friendly town, I used to go there regularly to interview people about their standard of living and stuff like that. Someone told me that a Lifestyle village, is being built there. (over 55`s small homes, just suited to empty nester`s) But its a family oriented town, with a busy little shopping centre, from what I have noticed driving through there.. anyway give me some more questions before Sunday night, and I will try to find out what you wish to know!
  15. all you new guys from *Pom* who like beers, should consider visiting the Little Creatures micro brewery out near Fremantle, as you might be surprised at the amount of Ales, you are used to in Britain, being made ,imported, shared by that company . as a matter of fact some of the Scottish brews are being imported and can be tasted there. There was a n article in the west on monday about some of the awards they have won.. Also guys, while beer drinking is considered a guys only craft you might be surprised at the amount of young women who imbibe toooo. Lots of younger women frequent that establishment on weekend nights, so my daughters tell me.
