I wore full waterproof gear and still ended up with a damp bottom and freezing cold. Not sure how that happened. The kids were frozen, said the water was warmer than the air. After all that, all we wanted to do was go home and get warm. Sorry we missed you Bean but I'm sure we'll catch up with you another time. Nippers - As as we have two kids, OH went with one and I went with the other, as you are not allowed to leave them. I wouldn't want to leave them. Two hours of constant tracking him in the rain, so far out that I couldn't tell which one he was! My eldest was the only one in his group who had never done it before. I felt so proud of him as he gave everything his best shot although it was completely overwhelming. Swimming out to buoys and back again in the deepest sea water he has ever been in, paddling on a board that was too small for him and kept sliding off, but all done with a big smile on his face. I was told the day before they had a Bronze Whaler Shark go up and down the coast in Mullaloo. Tracked by the tagging system. No reappearance in 36 hours so the all clear given. I asked my son what he could see when he looked into the water. He said murky blue-greyness due to the poor weather, tried not to think of what was beneath him! Did get stung by jellyfish though. My little one, tired easily after an hour of running up and down the beach doing relays and swimming out to a boat and back several times. Great fun but will be so much better in sunshine. louisef Posted October 19, 2014 Report Share Posted October 19, 2014 Oh dear sorry to cause alarm Debs .... it was just seeing my 8 yr old daughter skip out to sea being picked up by a huge wave and then not being able to spot her again for another 20 mins - think she was the last one back out of the water from her group. I was squinting away in the rain by the shore loaded down with all the bags umbrella etc with a rising sense of panic in my chest and feeling a bit dizzy - just as well I didn't know about the shark Sully cos I probably would have fainted ! Daughter said she drank loads of salt water and was deep blue around the lips - not sure it was the cold or the partial drowning. OH did remind me when we got home with mild hysteria that we were surrounded by Life Savers for chuffs sake - easy for him to say from the sofa but guess he has a point ; ). He is an accountant,Porty but he is quite specialised at the mo- finance manager in nuclear decommissioning. of course I know there's no nuclear power here but we were hoping his project managing would transfer to oil,gas, mining etc. one agent told him it was ludicrous to give up a job in the uk to come here as 600 people apply for every finance post- yeah right ( she was a Brit!) however it's not helping me to persuade him....! x Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They only deal with boxes and unfortunately you've used the 'specialised' word. Your second mistake was in believing in transferable skills. This is as mysterious and incomprehensible to a recruitment type as compassion is to a London parking attendant. Unless you are vanilla and can satisfy 80% of their checklist criteria they simply don't know what to do with you. As someone in a fairly commonplace profession (learning and development), but with highly specialised focus (immersive experiential learning), I know from experience that recruiters can do very little for the likes of me and Mr Bean.
