  1. I'm just wondering if there are any meet ups planned NOR? I've had a look on here but can't see anything. We arrived in September but have recently settled in Padbury. (Myself 30 emma, my husband Ronnie 33, and our kids Louie 7 and evie 4). We are having a great time and now want to make some good friends so a meet up would be great! if anyone knows of any please let me know, thanks p.s we are from Glasgow ??
  2. I'm hoping to get my daughter into dancing. She is almost 4 and basically I just want her out doing something. I'm not looking for a top class dance school, just somewhere she can go and have fun. We live in padbury so somewhere local would be great. I've been looking online but can't seem to find anything
  3. Hi hannah. Where NOR are u? We are moving to padbury on Saturday! SOR at the moment. I'm 30, my husband Ronnie is 33 and we have a 7 year old son and 3 year old daughter. We are hoping to make friends when we move as we will hopefully be more settled by then. emma
  4. I have a 7 year old and mix looking for a club around padbury/craigie area. Any ideas? I've been searching online but I've not come across anything
  5. hi, I too am a primary teacher. Been here since sept but have been lucky enough to secure a job next year. I too applied for everything and it's so disheartening getting rejected constantly! I also found it hard to Taylor every letter to suit as there were so many plus I never thought I stood a chance anyway! I did some relief this term on days I had childcare. It wasn't in the best school so some days it was really tough; however, the money was great and really I was guaranteed work. Schools are looking for people they can rely on. If you can get into a few schools and long service leave or a maternity comes up your chances will be really good! Good luck
  6. We had one from the Khoo I noor in padbury and really enjoyed it! Had a couple from places down south and they have all been rubbish!
  7. i came out in sept as a primary teacher and have been really fortunate job wise so feel free to get in touch
  8. Hi, I would encourage your husband to sort his trbwa as soon as he can. Mines was painless as I got mutual recognition as I was registered in Victoria but it seems like a real nightmare for some people. I agree with the previous post that primary teaching jobs are tough to get. I arrived in sept but starting applying around July!! Huge amount of adverts but obviously a lot more teachers applying. Getting no after no is really tough but I guess that's what happens. I was really lucky and had a couple of offers. I got a years post through an appointment pool however I kept applying for permanent jobs and any in catholic schools as that's what I really wanted. I ended up getting one last week so all the hard work, constant knock backs has been worth it!! I also did some relief which was fine, just over $400 a day!! Plus no commitment of after school sports etc however, again as the previous post says you just don't know where u will end up! Suppose it all depends on your character. Good of luck with it all.
  9. They should manage to get someone to do term 1 before u arrive! That would be easier than them re advertising, interviewing etc as I assume they will already have stopped. hopefully it works out for u!
  10. you keep your uk license! Not sure about the retest part but getting aus license is dependent on your visa. Pretty sure if it's a permanent visa you must apply in the first 3 months. Temporary visa is longer I think?? im sure someone else will know for sure
  11. We will be breaking our lease at the end of January. It's a 4 x 2 x 2 in Bertram. We will pay the first weeks rent
  12. Hi, my family and I are moving NOR towards the end of January. We are hoping to be based in padbury. If anyone knows of any rentals coming up please let me know. Looking at the usual websites but thought I'd try here just incase
  13. My children (3&6) have an interview for a catholic primary school on Monday. Has anyone experienced this before? What does it include? thanks in advance
  14. Is there not some abandonment clause? What if the agent realised we were no longer staying there?
  15. Was there the option of just paying til the end or would those other fees automatically be charged?
  16. I'm looking for some advice. My family and I currently live in Bertram and are in a rental agreement until the start of April. Today I was offered a ful time permanent job NOR starting in Feb. I am delighted about it but we most definitely need to move north for the end of jan as I want my kids to start their long term school at the start of the year. basically I'm wondering where we stand. Are we able to break the lease and cover the 2 months rent that we won't be there for? There are a few properties about here and I doubt they would get anyone else so I'm worried about having to pay marketing fees plus rent. We would be willing (not happy though) to pay the rent until the lease ends. any info would be great
  17. Hi. Did you get anymore info on this? I've moved over from Scotland and I'm trying to work it all out. I stayed in vic for a while so had a super there which I planned just to continue here; however, they don't allow me to transfer my UK one to it. I'm now going to look for another one that will allow me to have it all in the one place. Thinking I may need to pay for advice though!!!
  18. As I said, it was very specific to the school. I ended up with a years contract though so feel free to message me. Where are u planning to stay?
  19. Hi mark, Well done! I had one that was for a pool but it was face to face rather than on the phone. I had 3 questions given to be 10 mins before. They ended but being the only questions. They were very specific to the school - one about their motto, one about sustainability (something they are big on) and I can't remember the last! Probably doesn't help much, sorry! I had a couple of other interviews not for pools. Questions were very much what you would expect! what school is it for? When do you arrive? Emma
  20. There is family day care which is similar.
  21. Well done!! kindy is not compulsory so you can't. Always secure a place. It's normally 2 full days one week then 3 the next. Kids start in feb as long as they are 4 by the end of June that year (I think). Pre primary is compulsory and is full time, as long as they are 5 by the end of June that year. childcare is expensive but the rebate gets you 50% of it paid but that depends on your visa. Hope this helps
  22. Unfortunatley we are in Bertram and have had similar problems. We signed up for a telstra bundle (phone, broadband and foxtel) great deal...... Called bk to speed up installation to be told there are no ports available so no broadband! We cancelled the deal. We then went to iinet who told us all would be ok with them. They sent a telstra person to install phone line which was already there. Then emailed to say surprise no ports available. I then got a $350 bill from them for the phone line!!!!! This was a nightmare, they were a joke. Long story short I posted my issues on their Facebook page and have now had the fee waivered as I was never told of them. We too were paying a fortune on mobile broadband!!! We are now with vivid wireless! Basically mobile broadband but it is unlimited for $79 per month which we feel is pretty good. May not be as fast as others but we use internet a lot and we really can't complain! Also customer service has been far better!!!
  23. Hi! I'm emma (30) from Scotland. I moved out here in sept with my husband and 2 kids.
