  1. I just cancelled my subscription to a provider called Spintel. Great and consistant service and cheapish compared to larger providers. Then I moved house and its failed to work since. Poor customer service in my view, and the only apparent solution was to pay over $200 for a technician to visit. I've since resigned with Telstra but waiting for my connection.
  2. Where I lived in the UK I only once came across a car hitting a house. It was a busy main road going down a hill amd then onto a T junction that had a mini roundabout. It hit the house in front of the mini roundabout. I can say with absolutely certainly that I will never hit a house, its hardly a difficult thing to avoid.
  3. I pay an amount what is probably considered cheap compared to somewhere near Perth CBD, for a 4x2 near Armadale. New estate, brand new house, lots of development and new supermarkets & schools being built etc. But, I set off for work at 930 and it takes around an hour to get North of the River. I wouldn't say traffic is bad at 930 onwards, its the distance that takes the time. Its a toss up between cheaper living and more travel or more expensive living & less travel. I drive so I can't account for the cost & time trains take. I would not find a house anywhere near as cheap, modern or big closer to the Swan. You have to go far North or South. If you dont, you get older, smaller houses etc.
  4. I live in Byford parallel and about 10 minutes from Jarra. I has North everyday, and a little later in the morning than you and it still takes me an hour to get North of the river.
  5. I live a little further out in Byford near Armadale. I live on a new estate and its an area under development with a coles and smaller shopping area being built in the next 12 months. Beyond that there are new primary and secondary schools being built. Lovely place to live, but off peak it takes about an hour to get the CBD.

    Finally...

Thanks. We move this coming Wednesday, can't wait!
  7. I live in rural WA right now and find the Aussies quite standoffish. I always had this niggle about it being about me being a POM but adter the best part of 12 months they've finally warmed to me, well sort of.
  8. I use Spintel.net.au but I'm currently in rural WA, until next week. Out here my service is brilliant. Decent speeds and it never fails. I only imagine, as well as getting cheaper, it will be even better service once I reach Perth. I'm on an unlimited plan, great for Netflix and it includes line rental. A smaller broadband provider but highly recommended in my opinion.
  9. We've chosen Byford near Armadale. It might not be up your street but out of the way & quiet (I think move in another week) up & coming suberb, lots of brand new homes, affordable, new schools being built & shops, 10 mins from Armadale but not close to the beach. Its a tough decision choosing but ours was swayed by our jobs.
  10. Sorry if I miss this above but try http://www.realestate.com.au you can search by price and pet friendly. I think cost will be your sticking point. Either you will have to raise your budget to get a location you want or accept a location at a greater distance. A quick look suggests there will be properties its just down to your preferences. I am soon to be in Byford. In a lovely 4 bed new build but the distance from Perth CBD is the downside.
  11. We applied for an oz insurance online and cancelled it a few months after we arrived. You should get your documentation in the post. Since arriving we registered with medicare and alo took out a new health insurance with Nib.

    Finally...

Despite being in Australia for a few years now, we will finally be moving to Perth. House sorted, Movers booked etc The countdown begins, can't wait!
  15. Probably just me but I rarely use my pc for the internet. I connect my phone to our wifi and I have this page book marked. Its absolute nightmare to navigate and respond on my phone though. So fingers crossed.
  16. Only to make the site mobile friendly.
  17. You pay nothing other than Rego once you bought the car. Unless I'm mistaken? No insurance requirements etc. No MOT requirement, maybe ask for proof of service. They do like a 99 ooint check here. I have two cars and it would cost about $70 (£35) to fill one but if I put that in my other car it would last twice as long, almost. Depending on the car you buy, it considered cheaper to run a car hee compared to the uk.

GP maybe? Although you'd have to pay. Or a Justice of the Peace. I don't the rules but there once that could possibly do it.
  19. You just need a cheap Ausi freeview box.
  20. Not sure about insurance but usually the moving company will provide you with an inventory sheet(s). And yes you pretty much has to inventory everything. Everything large at least. Sofas, bookcases, electrical etc things like pots an pans or individual books, dvd etc don't need to be. For your own purposes, label boxes by room or item type.
  21. Hi There not actually a particularly large car. 5 door or estate perhaps but not the same size as something like a Ford Mondeo. Smaller! You see a few of them but the more common car here is Holden (Vauxhal) or Toyota, they have showrooms everywhere. I think the Magnas' plus point is that its usually relatively cheap second hand. Don't know much more about them really. Personally I opted for an old Honda CRV when I first arrived. It might be old but we've never had any problems with it and it has heaps of room and boot space. We since upgraded to a second car, a Ford Focus. Also, try carsales.com.au it does exist here but this is the equivalent of autotrader.
  22. Getting PR will likely take you between 9-12 months. Its done through an internet portal and you usually have to wait days or weeks for each step of the process to be completed. There are a lot of properties out there, I'm currently lookjng for a new rental in Perth, and i've noticed a few that have been listed for quite a while. There has to be some that are more accepting of a shorter term lease.
  23. Rural WA. Were people steal 30ft boats drive ways and steal bikes that they go to the supermarket on with no ****s given. Not as bad as I make out but bad enough.
