  1. Hello, only me, just a quick question, we're hoping to go to New York next year, just wondering if I can come and go as I please out of Australia? Or once I leave to New York I will have to apply for like a return visa? Or anyone know where I can find the information on? I've tried good old Google but no luck xxx
  2. We were like zombies. We found the snooze lounges and slept there for 6 hours I did not anticipate being as tired as I was. I've never felt that exhausted. We were literally falling asleep sat upright. I couldn't sleep on the plane, well worth trying to catch a few ZZzzzZ on the flight xx
  3. Ahhh Steph, I also work in Hollywood, it's a lovely hospital. What ward / area are you working xx
  4. We looked around the cbd, prices were expensive for rentals, we decided to buy a cheap run around for 900$ ( it's like a shed on wheels but it gets us from a to b) and we looked further south, we live in Leeming, to my job in the city it's 15-20 minutes commute and my other half works in Rockingham for the council so it's a 30-40 minute commute, we got a 3 bed house for $400 weekly, were as in the cbd that was the price for a one - 2 bed apartment, let alone a house. Maybe look either north or South 15-20 minute commute to the cbd. I don't find the commute all that bad, I drive all the way down the river xx
  5. Wahoooo you finally made it, welcome to your new home- I'm also in love with my new life, just in time for summer too,. Let the fun and games begin xx
  6. I'm just sat In the garden having some lunch and letting the sun soak into my pasty skin before I go to work for an afternoon shift ... Looking forward to the warmer months approaching.
  7. Finding it okay at the minute, busy with work and getting the house sorted so haven't really had time to miss the UK just yet. Loving the fact it will start to get warm soon, it's practically rained majority of the time I have been here. Finished my shift at 3 pm yesterday, me and the other half went to kings park and watched the sun set over the city, couldn't really do anything like that back in Lancashire lol. So far so good
  8. Just wondered what's the deal with gps, do I have to register? I'm on the contraceptive pill and I need another prescription at end of December, just wondered how I go about going to the doctors, it's covered by Medicare isn't it?
  9. Ahpra are a lot slower at everything in comparison to anmac, If that helps, I know it's all a big worry but honestly ahpra took a good few days to reply stating they had received it xx
  10. I know no one will care but I'm finally settled in Perth now I feel home xx
  11. Wahoooo before you know it you will be on that plane, I've been here a month and it's the best decision I've made. I'm totally settled. We have a nice 3 bed rental in leeming, it's massive, a lot bigger then anything I could of dreamt of having in the UK. I know your feeling nervous, but honestly? It's the best thing you could be doing xx
  12. Well done you two, finally nearly at the end. Get it filled out and start uploading documents, will be on that plane in no time xx
  13. I am unsure about the children's hospital, I'm at Hollywood private and I'm adult trained. Can you drive? You can pick up a cheap run around for around $1000 on gumtree. A lot of local garages also advertise on there. So worth a look. We have been advices from friends here that if it's an older car to make sure it is registered (rego) as its a palava if it isn't xx
  14. Ahh thank you guys, it's pretty easy to settle in. My advice to any nurses however is go to ahpra in the first few days of arrival. There is a little bit on the registration letter that states you have to present in person, with the move and everything I totally forgot this point. it's delayed my start date by a week. Its been really stormy the past few days, I have been awake all night with torrential rain and thunderstorms. Remember to pack winter warmers or prepare to purchase when you get here.
  15. From my particular station they run from 5.43am to 3.15am, depends on your station, and no I have a smart rider and the train journey works on zones. I don't know if you have a map handy, but I live in daglish and my other half commutes to Rockingham and it costs him approx 13$ a day x
  16. I know this seems a long shot, but my other half signed up for Flexi staff, don't know in they have that where you are, he's working in Rockingham at the minute, it's like an agency for labourers etc, he's doing park maintanence at the minute xx
  17. I currently live in jolimont/ daglish, there are plenty of children's parks around and a school close by, I'm working at nedlands ( which isn't in the city). I am catching the train everyday. you will be surprised at how efficient the train service is and how inexpensive it is xx p.s I'm also a nurse lol x
  18. You will love it. Hopefully, the weather will pick up for when you arrive. It's Torrential rain here tonight, the other half is at football training in it xx
  19. Well guys, after a whirlwind couple of weeks since we got granted our visa I'm finally posting my "one week in" My journey began on the 21/7/15 we flew from Manchester at 10am, we handed out bags in and we were 4kg over our allowance. The lovely lady at emirates let us off the surcharges, and we proceeded to say good bye to our families. I held it together. However, just as we were about to go through the gate, my boyfriend got down on one knee, I front of our family, as well as the rest of the airport. I was overcome with emotion and we continued our celebrations in the bar. The flights with Emirates were amazing, so comfortable. We had a massive stop over in Singapore for 18hrs, we were exhausted. Falling asleep numerous times upright. Eventually, we arrived at Perth airport at 9.00am the 23/7/15. We we got into our taxi and arrived at our 1 bed apartment. It is perfect for a base. We are currently in daglish (the stop after Subiaco on the Fremantle line) perfect for access to the city and my job at nedlands. Day1 - we had a 5 hour nap and headed to the city, we went to Westpac and arranged an appointment to activate our bank accounts for Friday morning. Had a look around the city, grabbed some lunch, headed home. We have no vehicle, so we went on the hunt for a local IGA. There is one about 10minutes walk from our apartment. We cooked dinner and then had an early night. Day2- went to Westpac for our appointment, opened savings account as well as activation our current account. Our bank assistant was very very informative. We applied for Medicare, got new phone contracts and got a smart rider. My OH has friends in Rockingham so we caught the train and went visiting. Then went back to the rental. Day 3- other half is signing up for the local soccar team "western Knights" so we both went to watch their home game. Had a few drinks afterwards, caught up with some friends, got a bottle of wine from a bottle o, went home and ordered dominos. Day 4 - explored our local area, jolimont/Subiaco/daglish. day 5 - other half signed up with Flexi staff in Rockingham. Sorted out or tfn numbers, purchased a heater from target ( ITS BLOoDY CHILLY) . Viewed some apartments in Mosman park- first ones we have viewed, slightly unsure at present. Day6 - other half attended drug/alcohol test and WA police checks for Flexi staff, I had a lie in. I attended ahpra in Subiaco to hand in my registration forms. I also visited my hospital and received my uniforms( a lot different to my polyester tunics back in the UK). Day7 - other half started a job at Rockingham council, maintaining parks and public areas. Hours are 7-4pm. Westpac bank cards have arrived so it's a day of shopping for me. My other half is getting a car for the commute to Rockingham. We have decided to rent near my work for the first 6 months and just have one car. After the 6mi this we are hoping to move further south and Us Both commute to work. We are a little unsure of wages and how much we will have for rental etc. This is the reason for rentas near nedlands. somethings I have found different then the UK... Everyone seems pleasent, always smiling at you, the general public seem very welcoming. Top drum washing machines ???? Very confusing. The parks are pristine, and the climbing frames don't have graffiti all over them. The roads don't have pot holes Public transport is actually on time im sure there are many more. So, here is my 7day diary
  20. I'm gutting the house top to bottom, numerous trips to the recycling plant. House is getting there should be pretty empty by the time we fly Tuesday. We moveout Monday. Still seems surreal xx
