mrmrshunter
My hubby and I put in our EOI beginning of May for 190 visa and we decided to call immigration last night just to check on time scales etc and we have been told it could take up to 2 years and even then we may never get an invite, we have 60 points and my hubby is an IT security officer on the CSOL list, the immigration person then said if anyone with more points submits their expression of interest they will always be invited before us therefore we may never get invited. totally deflated was hoping to be over march 2016 anyone else is this lovely position? ali
Sorry to hear that - I can't offer much support regarding the system as it was totally different when we got our visa

Oh no :-( Really sorry to hear that! Have you maybe looked at other states? You'll obviously have to spend 2years there once approved on a 190 visa but 2 years in Aus is better than 2 years waiting for a 'Maybe'. Also, maybe your husband could look at applying for jobs that might offer 457 sponsorship. It'll buy you some time in Aus while you wait for your PR. It's a 4 year visa and your time working in Aus will give you more points. Good Luck!
mrmrshunter
thanks Ali MissNancy - yes we are currently looking for 457 aswell and we are really trying for that, we could try for another state we have looked at this option aswell but would need to retract our EOI for Perth, also its only a moral obligation to stay in another state for the 2 years it isnt by law so we could do that and still move to Perth but im a bit funny about the moral thing!! its so emotional it all isnt it!! Lou8670
There's was a time when you would have been invited on 60 points but the advice you've received is correct; anyone who submits an application with more points than you will take precedence. I don't see how Immi can tell you 2 years though. It could never happen or it could be 6 months; it just depends on who else applies. Is there any way you can increase your points? Have you done the IELTS? Have you claimed for all the work experience you can claim for? Do you have any skills on the same list? If you do you can pay to have your skills assessed and if approved I believe you can claim another 5 points. mrmrshunter
oh i never thought about myself - im a medical secretary (medical terminology qualification) so not sure if i would be able to get assessed but i will look into it - thanks for that tip my hubby is considering doing the ielts again as he was 1 point away from getting an overall 9 so im sure that gets him another 5 points. If redoing the IELTS and getting a higher score will get you an extra 5 points then that's the way to go! Remember if he had to sit the academic he will only need to redo the general test for the extra points!
mrmrshunter
Thanks Lou think it was the general one he done first time too
chatterbox
He only needs to get 8888 to get the extra five points, not an overall
Lou8670
Do you have 60 points without the State sponsorship points? Because if you do you stand a better chance of bring invited on 60 points on 189...unless of course your skill is only on the State skills list... verystormy
While it is true that 60 points will be overlooked against applicants with more points, I have never seen a applicant with 60 not receive an invite within 3-4 months.
mrmrshunter
so you think there may still be a chance verystormy? we have 60 points with the state sponsorship, think my hubby may resit his ielts so try and up our points, i know we may have a long wait ahead of us now which i was hoping we didnt but nevermind we are just ready to go and know there is jobs out there as my hubby has had plenty of interest on linked in etc but no one offering sponsorship yet! susanbro
Please don't listen to whoever told you that from immigration - I have had 3 friends all put in EOI just before the July slow down in May, they didn't get invited the end of June round but all 3 got their invites on Mon 6th July. All had 60 points. Next one is the 3rd Aug - you'll probably get in then. Hang fire till then on another IELTS xx

susanbro
was that for the 190 visa susanbro? x Soz was checking something out before coming back to you. No they were all 189, but one of the guys on a group I follow on Facebook got his 190 invite today. Asked him there and he waited 4 weeks, this was for Victoria xx
Takeme2Oz
Hi, I can see by your signature that your husband scored an 8 in IELTS this would have got him the maximum 20 points so even if he re-sat and got a 9 his points score would not change. As immigration are only doing one invitation per month now I'm sure more people with 60 points will get an invite in each round (that's what I'm hoping as I have 60 points too). Good Luck x
Alan Collett
Have you lodged an EoI for a 189 visa, or a State Sponsored 190? If a 190 (as you are saying) you won't get an invite without State Sponsorship. Have you applied for State Sponsorship yet? 60 points and State Sponsorship means you progress from an EoI to a visa invitation straightaway. Best regards. Immigration are only doing one invite per month for a 189 visa we have applied for a 190 which seems to be invited throughout every month so we are holding on tight and hoping! x
mrmrshunter
Ok so we have spoke to go Matilda for information and they said yes we need to apply for state sponsorship but we cannot find how to do that! Every time I search for it only comes up with information regarding an Eoi! Obviously an agent isn't going to tell me how to do this myself as they want our business - can anyone shed any light on this?? X

susanbro
We used an agent, at times I wanted to throttle them but if you're having a hard time like yourself then defo use one, it will be money well spent if it gets you to where you need to be. Good luck xx
