JenPen
I was in perth for Christmas and we had a full on English dinner at lunch (air con helped a lot) then in the pool! It was ok.....but you know what I found it hard! I was bored - no one wanted to do anything and it made me realise my family Christmases are amazing!! I'll have to invite friends over and create another family to have fun and games with and I will enjoy a stroll along the beach! It won't be boring that's for sure! Haha! Guest Guest6235
The Christmas day I once had in Queensland was a bbq breakfast in the morning down the cul de sac I was staying down, then for dinner it was a pick what you want from the table and go off to eat it, some were in garden & others in living room. It was ex gf family I was staying with so enough said. Edited October 27, 2014 by Guest6235
ali
Our Christmas starts on Christmas Eve - we make Christingles, usually have chinese or hubby makes paella and we have a couple of drinks and relax. Christmas day - I'm always up first waiting for the kids (no matter how old they've gotton), we have brunch and bucks fizz and then usually go in the pool. My daughter insists on a Turkey and Ham dinner (3 courses) ... or "it won't be Christmas" - so we normally eat indoors about 5 or 6 o'clock. Boxing Day we usually have friends round
Sideshowdeb
We're buying kayaks as a family Christmas present so we'll probably head to the river and fall off those, a lot!
Bibbs
Posted on the same thread last year, but this year I may be divorced if I can get the forms in on time. :- http://www.perthpoms.com/forum/news-gossip/4787-christmas-4.html#post75340 The wife and I do our gifts between us on Xmas Eve. On Xmas day, we head to whoever is "hosting" early with food and drinks (year before was - 10 steaks, and 50+ cans of JimBeam). Usually about 20/30 people arrive, close friends and family. The women stay indoors in the AC and gossip over champagne, the blokes get drunk, talk rubbish, and lounge in the pool & hot tub. Gifts are handed out at lunch, in a big circle. BBQ fired up for mid afternoon. Disco and music in the evening. Get a lift home and collect the car the next day. Then it's recover to do the same thing (without gifts) a week later. portlaunay
This year Mrs p's heading back to the UK with the kids so I'm undecided. Ordinarily we breakfast very early on the beach and then I get cooking because I usually feed 50-60 at the church for Christmas dinner. Christmas isn't particularly special for me personally, I can take or leave it. I was planning to cook Christmas dinner for the church as I usually do and then head east to the Woodford festival but flights are ridiculously expensive, even flying Christmas night so that's out. I might see if I can get a cheap flight to Bali or Vietnam for Boxing day and have a week away or I might drive south and see where I end up. DreamTripper
Christmas is not the same but you get used to it and adapt. I never wanted to do the whole beach thing on Christmas day...too busy and prefer to stay home on the day, we go Christmas Eve, for sunset and a picnic, then Christmas Day, fairly similar to UK routine, Brunch and Bucks Fizz and a late late lunch/dinner occasionally outdoors though novelty of that has worn off and easier to do full dinner indoors. If having buffet style it's outside. Pool time and drinks in arvo... We get a real tree from the farm, helps with the atmosphere and smells fantastic Had family here last year so it was much nicer, I'd say it's the one day of the year you long for UK! This year we are heading back for a month so really excited at our first cold Crimbo in several years:jiggy:
Plimthing
We are going back to uk beginning of December and staying for 3 weeks then back here for Christmas in Australia. That way kids can get the excitement of all the build up in uk with grandparents then back here and do it all again in the warmth of oz. Santa still manages to bring dads socks, no matter where you are in the world.
fifi69
It will be different to what you know how Xmas is done in the UK .. But different can be good...I arrived early august 2012 knowing no one, it was just our little unit of 5. come Xmas day, we celebrated on Cottesloe beach with another 13 people, then it was back to ours for a full Xmas dinner and pool party. prior to moving here, I Didnt even know these people, but throughout the year we did lots together, then Xmas last year was spent at Coogee beach, another great day. this year will be more of the same:cool: I like it..a lot. Used to always wish I could afford to escape to the sun at Xmas ....now its on my doorstep. but we want what we can't have, so I've earmarked 2019 as the time I wiil head to Europe to enjoy a "proper Xmas " Xmas day in Perth is summer hols....that brings enough joy:cool:
