One week in...

Well guys, after a whirlwind couple of weeks since we got granted our visa I'm finally posting my "one week in"

My journey began on the 21/7/15 we flew from Manchester at 10am, we handed out bags in and we were 4kg over our allowance. The lovely lady at emirates let us off the surcharges, and we proceeded to say good bye to our families. I held it together. However, just as we were about to go through the gate, my boyfriend got down on one knee, I front of our family, as well as the rest of the airport. I was overcome with emotion and we continued our celebrations in the bar.

The flights with Emirates were amazing, so comfortable. We had a massive stop over in Singapore for 18hrs, we were exhausted. Falling asleep numerous times upright. Eventually, we arrived at Perth airport at 9.00am the 23/7/15.

We we got into our taxi and arrived at our 1 bed apartment. It is perfect for a base. We are currently in daglish (the stop after Subiaco on the Fremantle line) perfect for access to the city and my job at nedlands.

Day1 - we had a 5 hour nap and headed to the city, we went to Westpac and arranged an appointment to activate our bank accounts for Friday morning. Had a look around the city, grabbed some lunch, headed home.

We have no vehicle, so we went on the hunt for a local IGA. There is one about 10minutes walk from our apartment. We cooked dinner and then had an early night.

Day2- went to Westpac for our appointment, opened savings account as well as activation our current account. Our bank assistant was very very informative. We applied for Medicare, got new phone contracts and got a smart rider. My OH has friends in Rockingham so we caught the train and went visiting. Then went back to the rental.

Day 3- other half is signing up for the local soccar team "western Knights" so we both went to watch their home game. Had a few drinks afterwards, caught up with some friends, got a bottle of wine from a bottle o, went home and ordered dominos.

Day 4 - explored our local area, jolimont/Subiaco/daglish.

day 5 - other half signed up with Flexi staff in Rockingham. Sorted out or tfn numbers, purchased a heater from target ( ITS BLOoDY CHILLY) . Viewed some apartments in Mosman park- first ones we have viewed, slightly unsure at present.

Day6 - other half attended drug/alcohol test and WA police checks for Flexi staff, I had a lie in. I attended ahpra in Subiaco to hand in my registration forms. I also visited my hospital and received my uniforms( a lot different to my polyester tunics back in the UK).

Day7 - other half started a job at Rockingham council, maintaining parks and public areas. Hours are 7-4pm.

Westpac bank cards have arrived so it's a day of shopping for me.

My other half is getting a car for the commute to Rockingham. We have decided to rent near my work for the first 6 months and just have one car. After the 6mi this we are hoping to move further south and Us Both commute to work. We are a little unsure of wages and how much we will have for rental etc. This is the reason for rentas near nedlands.

somethings I have found different then the UK...

Everyone seems pleasent, always smiling at you, the general public seem very welcoming.

Top drum washing machines ???? Very confusing.

The parks are pristine, and the climbing frames don't have graffiti all over them.

The roads don't have pot holes

Public transport is actually on time

im sure there are many more.

So, here is my 7day diary :)

Ahh thank you guys, it's pretty easy to settle in. My advice to any nurses however is go to ahpra in the first few days of arrival. There is a little bit on the registration letter that states you have to present in person, with the move and everything I totally forgot this point. it's delayed my start date by a week.

Its been really stormy the past few days, I have been awake all night with torrential rain and thunderstorms. Remember to pack winter warmers or prepare to purchase when you get here. :cute:

We arrived in Jul 2013 and it seemed to never stop raining. The last few days have been a bit mild compared to normal Perth wet weather, it takes a little bit of getting use to when the storms start to come in and you see photos of the lighting strikes, water spouts and cloud shelves, but I now enjoy them and when it's raining stay snuggled up indoors (unless we have a netball match). I think its the noise that is difficult to adjust to, as when it pours down it's deafening. I remember a water spout at Fremantle I think, it was the second week we were here, and it killed someone, that seemed quite freaky, but again I love looking out for them now, as back in the UK yes we had storms, but the ones here are magical to watch, as long as you stay safe and no major damage occurs. It is lovely to sit on the beach and watch a storm roll in from the ocean, just make sure you get off the beach before it reaches shore.

Congratulations Ashlene, what a way to start your new life. I can't believe your actually there, I feel like we have done this journey together with your brill help with all the AHPRA stuff at the beginning. I fly out on the 26th of sept and feel like I owe you a very large glass of wine. Hopefully see you on the sunny side. Xx
