  1. Short term rentals taking any pets will be hard to find but given quarantine etc you should be in a long term by the time you get the cat back so won't be too hard to sort out ;-)

Mozzies were awful in Lakelands near Mandurah but there are none at our temp rental in Secret Harbour?
  3. Oh and once you are working update centrelink of your expected annual earnings ASAP - the mobile phone app is great.
  4. You should get both depending on your wife's earnings. Just go to your nearest Centrelink office with a copy of your visa, Medicare card, passport and tenancy agreement then they will register you all. Once it's processed which will take about 2-3 weeks (except Christmas will make it longer) it will be back paid from your arrival date or rent start date for Rent Assistance. Make sure your estimated income for the tax year is accurate or slightly inflated to avoid being overpaid.
  5. Pool is deffo on the cards, we have a 572sq.m block so room on the back, just got to see what the end value is to see if it can go on the mortgage. Hope our side access is big enough, how wide is a bobcat ? Have to admit we are having a glass splashback so still a lot to clean but no tile grout to get stained ! Doesn't sound like you need full house cabling but you know where I am if you do (registered telecoms cabler) ;-) Adam, sorry we are hogging your post, not heard of Actron but Daikin are good and not heard bad things about Fujitsu, just compare the inverter specs for the models you are being quoted on as it could make a big difference to running costs.
  6. Hey VS, that's a nice house design, our build diary is here http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64997 E-wire is not the same as smart wiring the house - they just provide an alternative internet/TV service direct to your property. I was referring to installing data points around the home to get faster cabled internet connections than using WiFi, ideal for TV and media streaming. The best bit is we will have NBN (one of the few!) so no more ADSL speed but might go for a 50/25Mbps service. We liked the display homes with window splashbacks until my wife said I'd have to clean them !
  7. We are building in Highbury Park, Baldivis with Ventura and almost at lock up now. They have been great so far. Only things we have to do at the end is window treatments some extra electrics (mate is a sparky and way cheaper than the pre start costs) and the landscaping of course ! I'm doing smart wiring as will have NBN too !
  8. Us too getting ducted zoned RC in the new house but having to make do with one wall unit until it's ready......phew !!
  9. To be honest it was the last thing and we barely put any effort in so the hose was still very dusty ! We bought a DC39 here and it's been great as have the 2 Dysons before it. Proper British engineering at its best. As for those robot vacuums unless you spend over $1500 they are pretty poor ! For shipping we used Schepens based in Southampton and they were great all the way through and pretty good price wise.
  10. Our dyson was 5 years old when it arrived and despite our best cleaning efforts it was deemed dirty. We had to choose to have it cleaned for $188 or have it destroyed for free. We bit the bullet and just bought a new one here for $500 which was pretty much the same as UK prices and warranty intact ;-)
  11. We have our phone ringer turned off too as only rarely use it for local calls out. Mobiles do the rest. I have spoken to Telstra only a couple of times in the last year as very reliable service but always got through to an Australian agent who speaks perfect English, so I don't understand the Telstra bashing. They certainly seem better than good old BT !
  12. Bring warm nightwear and bedding too as it gets very cold indoors at night, lowest this last winter was 6c, not helped by no central heating or double glazing like we were used to.

    Bank Accounts

Open an account online with NAB, very easy, no monthly fees, just go into the CBD with passport and visa when you get here for your cards.
  14. Oh yes Decadent C's, more of a lush cafe than a chocolate factory but the cakes are divine !

You can turn left at some junctions if there is a red light as it only applies to straight on/turn right but didn't think it was much different to the UK ?

Houses expensive ?? Compared to the UK (I know it's not a good thing to do !) we are getting 50% more floor area than our UK house for pretty much the same money.
  18. I sound Indian with that one !
  19. Exactly, Nu kas tal Yawk Burr min gam
  20. The least you could do is pronounce southern cities in the southern way - I always say Manchestor to recognise its northern location ! ;-)
  21. Now I get it, we might have to wait until the kids have left home before I install one ! ;-)
