It is advised (not law) to keep them in at night and we do ours to protect them and the wildlife. We fall under Rockingham council too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You have 3 months to get your driving licence and will need to wait for some ID etc to be able to apply. As VS says TFN is the very first. So many don't bother with the Skilled Migration registration, I didn't (get round to it) and my 2 year commitment is almost over now !

Synergy are the only electricity supplier in WA. We changed to Kleenheat but Alinta offered a cash discount per bill which worked out better than the 10% deal so switched back ! Mind you we do have gas boosted solar hot water so our gas use is low.

Shale grey comes out lighter than the colourbond when painted on ! -
How funny, I have one too, same colour, easy to find in the car park !

You can stack the dryer on the washer with a rubber pad between them from the DIY stores. We've used our dryer maybe 10 times in 18 months just because sometimes we can't wait the 2 days stuff takes to dry inside in the winter.

Central heating isn't like the UK with a boiler and rads. It's usually a ducted aircon unit with electric heater built in. I'm loving ours after last winter in a rental with NO heating. No wall insulation and single glazing is not good though ! WA really needs to move away from double brick construction as thermal mass simply doesn't work well in this climate (apart from the very Southern areas.

Only crazy people sunbathe here. Without sunscreen you will burn VERY quickly regardless of skin type, shade is a good thing ;-)

any suggestion for living in Mandurah WA
Chardy replied to Newcomer's topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Mossies are bad all around Mandurah thanks to the estuary especially in the warmer months, we lived in Lakelands for a year and it stopped us eating outside a lot. Now in Baldivis and see none. Just budget for repellent in your shopping and you'll be fine ! We have dramatic storms in the autumn winter all across the state but rarely severe enough to cause major damage fortunately. -

Love our included Daikin 7 zone, 10 outlet aircon. So much better than the evap we've had in rentals. -
Spend a few weeks in the hills in my cousins old wooden house and you'll see enough huntsmen to keep you happy, I miss seeing them now ;-(

Ours were $30 a piece - wish I'd got more in ! Our builders seem a lot cheaper for extras than some others. -

We had all our power outlets moved onto internal walls too so our friendly sparky can add ones on the external walls with no wall chasing later on. -

Yes but I'll DIY when I have time (I'm a registered cabler). Agree with VS, have conduits put in (on internal walls) so it can be pulled in later for less. External walls have the cavity to run the cables in. Builders doing smart cabling is a complete money maker for them! -

Yes you have to pay rates on your block as soon as it is settled although only as vacant land so a little cheaper. It takes some councils a while to catch up but normally the plans approval tips them off. You might want to call them VS or you'll get a backdated bill which may be a bit if a shock ! The water bill for our build was about $100 (usage and rates) and the electric about $80. Gas nil as it's not put on until the last few weeks. -
Got me wondering how ours was structured then, I think possibly the $7k FHOG and our PPA deposit covered the extras ?.........

I can only comment on Meadow springs PS as our 3 were there for a year and it is a great school. The state high school has a bad rep, one reason we moved away from the area before our eldest got to year 7.

You are settling well. I like the line about it being mild weather - you won't say that next year once you've acclimatised ! When you see a booze bus you'll be shocked how many they get. Speed cameras are often hidden in the centre reserve bushes on the freeways or handheld guns behind signs etc Most schools don't put their catchment online so you will need to visit them in person which at least gives you a chance to get a feel for the school.

VS - pay for upgrades on the day, really ????? Ours were included in our finance payments. What builder are you with. ?
