Hi Deb, What do you want to know about Rocko ? As an engineering surveyor your OH will be in a good place to job hunt as you will be close to the Kwinana/Henderson industrial area. From experience it is not as bad as the perceived reputation. It has rougher areas like any suburb but the foreshore is family friendly and had some great eating options. The shopping centre area is good too. Anything specific just ask ;-)

We are building in Baldivis so I hope it's ok ! Seriously though we looked around a LOT of places and even Baldivis has a couple of less desirable parts but on the whole it's coming together nicely, still got at least 5 years development to go so we like the look of it, moving in sometime in March :-)

Also Like the Perth Weather Live page on FB. The guy running that did an awesome job posting the updates yesterday. So sad to hear of homes lost and the poor guy defending his house. My cousin and family were back in their house last night shaken but unharmed. Just hope it can be controlled/contained today!

You send your passports to Australia house in London, they now charge I think but that's all I know ! ANZ ! We joined NAB as they do fee free banking on their classic account unlike most, never had an issue with them. We used Moneycorp signing up via the link on the PerthPoms forum site to get fee free transfers. The difference is you can ask for them to exchange funds when the rate hits a certain point and no fees ! We did all ours, just left a few hundred in our UK account to cover final bills etc. We've transferred our pensions into an SMSF as we are here for life, if you do it in the first 6 months you avoid paying tax on the growth in that time . Make sure you are deffo staying long term though as taking it back again will cost you heaps ! Not too long I reckon !

We are in secret harbour until our build is finished and the "quarter" we are on is lovely, friendly neighbours and only 2 mins bike ride from the great patrolled beach. Shops are a bit limited but the pub is great !! I have heard less complimentary things about the eastern half of the area but not witnessed anything.

Arriving in July, you'll be the ones in shirts while the rest of us are in jeans and jackets LOL!

Just wanted to pass on my best wishes to all those affected or under threat from the fires. My cousin, husband, son and dogs have evacuated their home in Mt Helena so may end up with us tonight.

Hi Lou, what estate in Baldivis did your SIL buy the lot in ? We're building in Highbury Park.
-
Loads of construction in the more southerly suburbs, especially Baldivis which has freeway and train station nearby plus some great beaches within a 10 minute drive. Plus you are already closer to the Margaret River area by over an hour less than compared to Butler ;-)

Just getting ready for Nippers at Secret Harbour Beach, it's 8:20am and 33.5 already !

You can access iPlayer if you go through a VPN service to give you a UK IP address.

We were quoted between 1100 and 1450 sq.ft by 3 companies, so right on the max of a 20ft container. In the end it all fitted with space for a couple of bodies left so was nearer the bottom end. Just as well as it was 3300 pounds for the 20 but over double for the 40ft - we didn't want a shared container!

44 degrees in the city only 39 in Secret Harbour........beach day !!

We used insure my move and they were excellent, saved over $1000 using them.
-
Shortage of brickies continues with high levels of new house building so you should be fine ;-)
-
Insure Your Move charged us 600 pounds for 45000 pounds total value which is over half the shipping companies. Claiming is not through a broker but direct to the insurance company, Royal Sun Alliance in our case, very easy. Remember the salesman gets commission on the insurance so he will go hard to get it !!

Protest against the shark killing legislation about to start
Chardy replied to Chardy's topic in News & Chat
Interesting that South Australia have refused to go down this route. Strange how they think a 1 metre reef shark will see the bait and think its not for them ! Another protest is planned for 1st Feb at Cottesloe do please join in if possible, this issue needs further resistance !! -
Hey Rendelroo, I'll be looking for a good carpet fitter in March to retrim our new build carpets once I've put in the skirting. If you will be SOR please PM me your details ;-) Good luck!
-
Getting phones on payg (pre paid) is easy, plenty of places to get them ;-)
-
Just wondering if anyone else went to this yesterday ? We travelled to Cottesloe from Secret Harbour with 3 kids and our own placards to support this protest. Over 3000 were there but only time will tell if the government will listen and prevent a potentially catastrophic change to the ocean life off Perths' beaches.

Apart from cars and out of season food i think it's similar to the UK and some thing like electronics are way cheaper.

Finally arrived in beautiful Baldivis...and LOVING IT!!!!!!!
Chardy replied to Geordie Lass's topic in News & Chat
Hi Kips, Is your Harry at Makybe, if so what year will he start in Feb ? Our son will start there this year in yr 4 as he will be 9 in March. We are currently in secret harbour but moving to our new house in Highbury Park round early March. We also have 2 girls aged 4 and 10. Justin and Emma. -
We barely iron anything, just my work shirts, creases seem to drop out easy here ;-)
-
My first tip is to save money and use either Letton Percival or Insure-Your- Move rather than the overpriced shippers insurance ! We used IYM and just put a total figure down so very easy ;-)

Langley park is great for the kids, loads of free stuff and get the train, it's really organised so you are not waiting ages to get home, beats driving any day !!
