Singapore airlines

Hi everyone,

I am just waiting on my partners 457 visa approval and me and little one will be flying out to meet him in perth hopefully within the next two weeks....

I was planning on flying with emirates as he flew with them and had a great experience, also family has always flown with them but on looking at prices it would save me an awful lot of money to fly with Singapore airlines.

i would be flying from Manchester stopping in Munich then Singapore both very short stops..just wondered if anyone has any experiences to share flying with Singapore airlines? I'm sure it will be fine, just with the extra stop and flying with my 3 year old would like to read some other experiences.

Thanks in advance

Elise x

Flown with both Emirates and Singapore and like both, Singapore really looked after my dad whose elderly (he said he won't fly with anyone else now). and I've heard they're really good with young ones - mine were older but couldn't fault the service. If you do get off the plane in Singapore you have to go back through security - so if you don't have to change planes and the little one is asleep I'd stay on the plane

Yes they are fantastic! I would imagine you will have to change planes at singapore as they often fly from different terminals, plus they have to refuel and they dont normally have people on board for that.

if you flying alone with a child, go with singapore. Every attendant remembered my sons name and came to chat to him throughout our flights. I jave read other peoples experiences where they will watch your kids if you need the loo or anything like that which a lot of other airlines wouldnt. For the quality of service i dont see why they are so reasonable!! I would fly them again over any other airline when flying with kids.

If you check the flight details it should say which kind of plane it is. Head over to seatguru.com and you can check out the seating plans for a Singapore A380. The main deck is 3 seats-aisle-4 seats-aisle-3 seats. But the upper deck economy section is 2-4-2 (as the roof curves) and you get an extra storage locker. For my money, well worth getting up at whatever o'clock is 48 hours before the flight when online check-in opens and grabbing those seats ;-)

Agree pretty difficult to get upstairs but fab service and plenty of room on the a380.You will have to change planes and quite a walk about 15 mins to change planes.Best to do the morning flight from heathrow gets you into Perth about 2 in the afternoon.

If you sit at the top you will get your choices as the section is small and has much better and quicker service than downstairs.

we booked flights in december for end of april and were able to choose seats when we booked, so you dont have to wait until the online check in opens a couple of days before.

Seat guru is awesome for checking seat configurations.

as you can see the last two rows in the middle are just 2s and you have a lot more room around you. Or you can choose any of the window ones which would be good for kids as you can have them at the window and then they cant run off unless ey get past you!

we had the last row of four in the middle and no one was in either of the two rows behind so we got to spread out on those two rows too, between me, oh, ds and my mum. It was fab.

big galley space tok to stretch your legs.

The more I fly the more I realise how utterly dreadful air travel is. I mean seriously, we pay hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars to sit in a cramped aluminium tube with dry, unbelievably poor quality a/c. The process of getting on it is purely about transit, nothing about quality, the seats are uncomfortable, the food we'd send back if any of us were served it in a restaurant (and remember you pay for it, it's not free!), and if our wait staff plonked it onto our table like that we'd be pretty miffed.

Having had some appalling experiences I realised that what constituted a good experience was little more than a smile. My expectations had been lowered so much that I thought a smile, a polyester blanket and a soft toy for one of my kids was good value and service, at $1000.

I've been able to turn left once, with BA and only there did air travel come close to anything like a good experience.

Rant over.

As you were.

I know where you are coming from, one of the reasons we havent had an international holiday for 5 years is i just dont want to be stuck on a plane - i fly enough with work - done the equivalant of Perth to London 4 times since May.

Thanks for all the advice lozzachino, greatly appreciated :)

coastie did you have to change at Singapore? Or just wait onboard whilst they refueled?

Oooh getting giddy now :)

The plane from Singapore to Perth was a different plane. We only had 50 minutes layover. Just enough time to walk from one plane to the other, via the Apple shop. The planes were at opposite ends of the airport.

Ouch! We fly in to Singers for a holiday at the end of the year but we're meeting friends in Bangers a week or so later so catching the train up. Rail travel always seems so salubrious compared to flying.

We did Emirates once - absolutely fine. But Singapore excellent also. V few complaints. We prefer getting the long haul out of the way to Singapore, then rolling downhill to Perth! And Singapore Airport is a good place to spend time. Better than Dubai, for sure.

It's the 2 stops from Manc

Used Singapore same route as OP service was great and it's not really a major stop on Munich more like get off plane stretch legs wait ten minutes get back on. When we got to Singapore we were late so went straight from one plane to the other but it was nice doing the shorter flight last.

Thanks everyone for all the great feedback. Actually looking forward to the flight now :)

one last question....hope it's not a daft one (probably is!) but when you stop over at Singapore can you only buy things from the airport in their currency?? Hence if little one wants something to eat or drink? As I was only planning on taking Aussie dollars and som gbp for Manchester airport.

thanks again

If you fly with singapore airlines you can get $40 per passenger, in singapore dollars, for transit. It comes as two $20 per person vouchers, and they dont give you change so spend wisely! We got it for our 3 year old as well so had $120 between the three of us. We didnt spend it all and gave the rest to my mum for her return flight. Go to any customer service desk and they will sort you out. Just keep your boarding passes form your flight to SIN and have your onward journey ticket or boarding pass ready too.

And no, you can use any other major currency, they just calculate their x rate at time of purchase.
