LB1978
We've just kicked off the visa process (189) for husband and I and baby son arriving in Perth in approximately July 2016 and I'm doing my sums....We have money in savings for all upfront costs now (visa, flights and shipping) and I'd like to save a good amount from now until we leave to live off when we get there. We will sell our flat before we go but I want to keep that money intact for a house deposit. We're both planning to work full time but I can't start looking until son has a nursery place so no idea how long that will take. I'm thinking £10k ish which is allowing for a reasonably comfortable 3 months in furnished rented accommodation....I think.... Thoughts? Mrskelly2014
We are taking £7k ish (family of 3) but we are staying with family until we find a rental. I have a job which I start a week after arriving so will have money coming in. I anticipate money will be tight but I'll let you know how we get on as we fly out on Friday x
pegg
will you have jobs secured before you go out ? As this would help stacks i reckon ;o) Where planning on securing work at new hospital but other half will be looking after our little un for a year so only one income ..... but hey exciting times !!! yey
LB1978
Ideally hubby would have a job secured although I've read stuff on here about employers preferring to recruit when we're there so not sure....he's a business analyst so perhaps not as in demand as nursing:-) I'm in banking and I see loads of jobs advertised doing what I do on job pages but I'll be looking after little one initially. If hubby gets an amazing salary, I'd love not to work but trying to be realistic....! We do have friends in Perth who will offer to put us up but with us having a toddler in tow and them also having kids, I imagine we'll be living in each others pockets a bit so probably best to get our own place! DangerousDave
We are going to have approx $20000 after 2 month short term rental is paid for. No jobs to go to yet ( leave in 3 weeks). We might be living off black and gold super noodles like my backpacker days if things go pear shaped.

They were always worth the extra 30 cents

annjean
Chopchop not sure if that will even buy you a tent, where are you planning on staying north or south, you can't just camp anywhere, there are fees for staying at a proper camping site with facilities. Then food on top of that, ok noodles $1.00 but you have to boil water. If you are north maybe come over to ours for a meal. verystormy
It will vary for everyone, however, you need to assume it will take at LEAST 3 months to get work and if you can budget for 6, then so much the better.
JasonM
We will have a bit in the bank, however when and if i get a job as i need to retrain i will only be on $26. ph so we will be on the dust diet. Unless i can get straight into a managers position where i don't have to take my licences straight away. i suspect most management positions will require WA experience. Will do me well to lose a few pounds to not eating anyway.

FOL
50 grant AUD. I had work the second day, so we didn't need all that. I reckon we needed at least 20k AUD if you have work within a month or 2: * We paid rent upfront to lock in a rental * Bought a car * Buying some other household stuff. * general living expenses. You don't have a cupboard full with stuff yet (like rice, salt & pepper, etc etc...you have to buy EVERYthing).
LB1978
Sounds like the more the better then....we'll have money here in the UK from our flat sale if we need it but hoping not to use that. I think we'll try for husband to get a job before we go too if we can. A few people have mentioned buying a car but we are planning to lease as we've always done that here. Probably a topic for another thread but is that common?

Probably a topic for another thread but is that common? It is common, and some employers offer it on a novated lease - so your payment goes from gross salary so saving tax. However, it does operate a bit different here. I looked at it a couple of years ago and it was only worth it if i did a LOT of Km's
HoneyJackMonster
I arrive in just over 2 months and I anticipate I should have about $20000 in my Aussie account. I have not got a concrete job offer just a nod from my mates old boss who said to look him up when I get there. So not a sure thing. That is to secure a rental and buy a car and furniture etc etc. My wife and children will be arriving three weeks later along with the proceeds from the house sale. If I'm fortunate to have some money coming in then we are hoping to put that money to one side to go toward a future house build/mortgage otherwise it shall be whittled away until we are living in a tent out in the bush.
