travelchic
Hi all. Now that jonny and I have settled in a bit I thought I'd let you know what we've been up to. Arrived 3pm Friday after flying with Singapore Airlines. Have to say, even though it a mega journey, I couldn't fault Singapore Airlines. They were brill. We set off from Manchester and landed in Munich a couple of hours later for fuel. We had breakfast before landing. Half an hour walk around Munich airport and then back onto the plane. Set off again for an 11 hour journey which included a late lunch and breakfast as well as a snacks basket which you could help yourself to throughout the flight. Arrived in Singapore. Did a bit of shopping in the airport, went into the butterfly garden where we seen the biggest butterflies ever, grabbed a coffee and then boarded our flight to Perth. Had yet another meal before landing. I've honestly eat more on that journey than I usually do in a week!!! Also, PROUD MUM ALERT!!, a couple of other passengers commented on how well behaved jonny was. arrived at my friends house. Had a good catch up, a few drinks, unpacked a bit then went to bed and slipped into a coma lol. A cold coma because I'm freezing. Got up the next morning fresh as a daisy. Applied for my TFN online then we went out in the car (armed with heavy duty cardigan) and did a bit of shopping, went to the beach, jonny played on the park then we went to see some wild kangaroos. Jonny loved it. I loved it too even though I was cold. I also fired off a few emails to hospitals with endoscopy units to ask about employment. Sunday we went into Perth City and I managed to get a mobile phone on contract. Go me. Came back from the city and looked for a car and found one on gumtree. Ford focus 04. Phoned the lady and arranged to go and see it today. Skyped the fambo, which was a bit emotional, as it was Father's Day too. Funny enough, Jonny didn't get upset. My son was wiping tears away from his eyes which broke my heart and Jonny's dad had bug eyes from crying and even though he's not my favourite person, I don't like to see anyone upset. got up this morning and it was very strange as everyone was in work so it was just Jonny and me. Got ready and went out on the bus (last time I used the bus was 1989) to lakeside shopping centre. Bought a jumper and some knee length boots. Yes I am that cold!! Came home and I had 4 emails from hospitals. 1 asked for my CV to keep on file for future nursing posts, 1 asking for my CV and asking me if I can do some casual shifts now, 1 asking for my CV and saying they are just being taken over and jobs are on hold for a short period but are interested and one of them didn't even ask for that, they just asked me to phone them for an interview. Went to the supermarket and picked up groceries for tea, then went to view the car which was in Very good condition. Was originally on for over $4k, then reduced twice. I got it for $3k. Left a deposit and going back tomorrow to collect. Thanks for the kind offer though porty. It was really thoughtful. so tomorrow is a busy one. Going into the hospital that I'm most interested in to hand deliver my CV. Then I'm off to Subiaco to the AHPRA office with my proof of identity, then I'm off to the city to give proof of identity to the bank and withdrawing the money for the car. Little bit of shopping. Home to a home open, or whatever you call it, and then off to pay for the car. If I get chance I will also pop into Medicare. Phew. Oh, and will be picking up forms for my change of driving license. Is there anything else I've forgotten peeps?? And now I've just read that there's a storm coming. As if I'm not cold enough!! Debs

SJT
Well I just need to sit down and rest after reading that, I got exhausted just reading it, let alone actually doing it. Well done Debs, you have literally hit the ground running. I am so glad it is all falling into place for you and Johnny. It is cold, very very cold. If you sit in the sun (which obviously will be difficult for the next couple of days) it is lovely, but once you are in the shade or the sun goes in, it is bloody cold. Good luck on the job front and I look forward to reading your next installment.
portlaunay
This is about as cold as it gets though so you are seeing the worst of it. Think of how bad the worst winters day is in the UK?
Lou8670
Well done Debs! You've done so much already! The next couple of days will be a bit wet, windy and cold but since we've been here, which is only a month, we've mostly had sunny days averaging 21 and cooler evenings...seeing as it's winter I think I can live with that
odies
Debs, what a wonderful read so interesting and funny, so pleased about work for you and so pleased Jonny is ok. xxxxx Hope you enjoy Hillarys and just wrap up the weather can only get better, I am usually there for a few weeks this time of year as its both grandsons birthdays and i still take t shirts thinking it is summer all the time there lol. have to have a water bottle and the convector heater on in my bedroom. However it is gorgeous here in the uk. It makes it more what you are used to for the first few weeks to get your feet under the table. wish you both all the best xx
travelchic
Well just got in and I look like a drowned rat!! And some rude man drove through a puddle right next to me which jonny found hilarious. Got my AHPRA sorted. Will be good to go in about 10 days but they said if I get a job to call them and they'll rush it through ha ha. Someone in WA willing to rush pmsl. I have now sorted my bank account and have my bank card and everything sorted out. Went to a food court for some lunch. A lady across from me left half of her meal on the table and a little old man sat down in her seat and finished it off ha ha. Go grandad. So I bought him a drink to wash it down with. Funny as. I also got an email from the hospital I'm most interested asking me to call in for an interview on Friday anytime between 8-4. Whatever is convenient for me. Woo hoo. Will keep you posted. Now off for a hot shower as my hair now looks like it's been combed with a toffee apple and I've got a home open. Debs

Ashlenelouise
Hi travelchic just looking at your timeline at the bottom of the posts and it says you sat the ielts academic then the ielts general just wondered the reason? Was the general for your visa ? I need to score 8s on all sections so I can get full points for 189 visa .. I've read on some posts that; people led sat the academic ielts for anmac skills assessment as they require 7s in each sections, once accepted people went on to do the general test for the 8s for the visa .. But the post was from mid 2013. I have looked on skills assesment for the requirements for English proficiency and it states " unless you are required to do so by your assessing body you only need to do the general training ielts" hope you can help xx
