  1. Hi @Nomadneat we live in Roleystone. I grew up here and lived in Roleystone until I went travelling to the UK where I stayed for 11 years. We came home nearly 4.5 years ago and we moved back to Roleystone. We bought our house. My kids go to Roleystone community college just as I did and will do years 11 and 12 at either Kelmscott or Lesmurdie. There is plenty for kids to do and lots of sports clubs. We are involved in the t-ball/baseball club. I work in Morley which is about 35 minutes on the Tonkin Hwy dependant on traffic and my husband works in Perth CBD his commute is just slightly longer by car. We never really looked anywhere closer to Perth and always wanted 'bush' to live in. My parents have been in Roleystone since 1970 and only once have they evacuated with a bush fire in 2011 which was started by a local using welding equipment. there seem to be more fires out of the hills now than in the hills. any questions please ask?
  2. We like Churchmans Brook or Canning Dam but we live in Roleystone
  3. It used to be called roleystone district high but the primary joined with the district high which was years 6 to 10 but it is now the community college which does k to 10 on the one site. I went to the primary school and to the DHS my children now go to the school. We are pushing for it to go to year 12. It it is not a district high anymore as it has a primary side attached to the school.
  4. There is work out there if you are in the corporate world. I took 6 months to find my job but I work in nfp sector in the migrant/refugee field so a very small field as never worked in the corporate world. I got my job in December but got the school holidays off so started last week.
  5. Roleystone community college is K to 10 with the school and p&c pushing to go to year 12.
  6. Hi mate, i would say your about on the money for the resale value at about $3000 to $3500 that of course wouldn't include the cost of getting it here a mate brought a bike out from the UK and managed to get it on the road and sorted apart from when he come to try and sell it it did take longer to move becouse it was an import even tho the same bike could be purchased here in WA. one othere thing to consider is are you sure you want to ride here, I have owned bikes since I arrived 3 years ago and I'm just about to give it up and sell my Ducati Diavel I just feel it's not that safe here and the heat in summer is not great sitting on a bike in 40 degrees i don't want to put you off and of course this is based on my experience but just something to think about,,,,,
  7. I don't think it is the norm. I am Australian and not once have my parents had any trouble in their nearly 65 years. I don't know anyone who has CCTV or any of the other things. My brother has shutters but that is for the heat! What do you class as a lethal dog, nasty breeds of dogs live all over the world!
  8. Hate to disappoint you Keefo, but when we lived in East London we lived behind an enclosed gate and had an alarm. When we lived in Manchester, we had a house alarm and our car was broken into the first night there.. Trouble happens all around the world, not just in Perth! Been home 3 years now and not once have we had trouble.
  9. I don't belive that the UK games will work on and xbox purchased in Australia, I belive its a regional thing like with DVDs could be be wrong tho
  10. What private are you looking for? Catholic, Anglican or Baptist?
  11. You can apply for your UK passport online take about 3 weeks to turn up, Then once it turns up you can have your visa moved over to the new passport number easy as they say
  12. We were relocated too in Dec 2012 on 457 visa, I am now PR and wife and kids are Australian,
  13. We submitted nomination and visa on the 20 February and received grant on the 29 May. No correspondence from Immigration at all.
  14. Thanks for the Info guys The number you posted Portlaunay is the one that takes me round and around. So i went in to the office this afternoon and would you believe it they stopped providing extensions from last April that's right last month So i now need to apply via the web site for a new passport.....
  15. So I have made my application for PR (mid-Feb) as I guess I’m about 4 weeks away from receiving the PR, but my passport runs out late June I have seen on the internet that you can get a passport extension for 12 months for free, I don’t want to go down the route of applying for a new passport just yet as the company I work for is being sold and I want to have PR before the sale just in case, so I don’t want to delay my PR application with new passport numbers I have managed to get my hands on the application form and the info I had told me that it can be extended at the embassy here in Perth but I don’t know where I need to send the submission to, I have tried to ring the embassy in Perth but when you go through the options for passports it just tells you to look at the main website based in the UK, And when you try and talk to someone it sends you to the operator rings off and then sends you back to the operator again:arghh: Has anyone been thought this process that can point me in the right direction please??
  16. We were looking at this visa aswell but we went with the ENS186 from a 457 (still waiting for grant another 6 or so weeks and hopefully we will have it). We have all the same documents gathered aswell. We got statements from two of our friends in the UK who have known us as a couple and statements from our parents. We would send it all. It is better to be covered than be asked for extra information as the processing time on a partner visa is horrendous as it is. The only other thing is if your children have their citizen by descent papers, I would get them aswell. (presuming they were born in the UK as mine were.)
  17. Now some people complain about living in Perth and how it’s a pain to get things here because things have to come from over east and I haven’t really come across anything that I wanted sooo badly that I minded waiting, Until today that is,,,, So this morning I was heading out of the house to work and before I left I give my glasses a quick clean and snap they break across the nose section:mad:, now I don’t normally wear contact lenses but I had some spare from the UK so popped them in and off I go to work, so I started ringing around to see if I could get in for an eye test (it’s been just over two years) I have asked each one of them how quickly can I get my classes telling them I have broken my only set. Two weeks – I could fly to the UK and get them and come back again in half the time not very happy PS – I don’t have a spare set because the last time I got some new ones I got a set of sun-glasses
  18. We checked on our viewing and then again before hand over, and things were noted by the estate agent to be fixed before settlement. Our's were taps and light bulbs only though.
  19. I had to do a three point turn, hill start, emergency stop, parallel park as well as telling the instructor the hand signals you would use if your indicators were not working.. and yes I did my test in Perth! So I find it quite harsh the comments people make about the drivers over here, bearing in mind not all of them are from Perth or Australian by any means.
  20. Our school has no fences around it ( Kindy to Year 10). The Kindy and Pre-Primary have a fence around them, but inside the school grounds. We are in the bush in the hills though! As per fees, ours are $60 per child for the Curriculum services and $40 P&C per family. (Year 3 and Kindy) plus the booklist at start of the year.
  21. If you are on a 457 then you can stay on your UK licence, I have been here for two years on a 457 and I'm still on my UK licence
  22. All part of living here best not to waste your energy trying to kill any thing that moves, the only thing we have a problem with is ANTS and this year hasn't been as bad a last year yet, and we only do something about them if they are trying to get in to the house
  23. Sorry can't help with the concreting, but we did submit a request for a quote regards Mark
