Kinross,

Two schools, Kinross College and Kinross Primary.

Situated just off Connolly Drive is Kinross Central- which includes IGA, Chemist, Health Shop, Newsagents, Beauty shop,Celebrations(Bottle shop),

Brumbys, Hairdressers(I think, not sure if its still there, I've never used it),

a Linen Shop, oh yeah and then there's the takeaways, and Curves( Gym for women, never used that either!!)

Next to shopping centre is a skatepark and a park.

Start of the freeway takes 30 mins, or there abouts to get into the city, but not in rush hour traffic.

Train Station at Currambine, walking it'll take 15/20 mins if its not hot!! Driving about 5 mins. Again not in rush hour!

Kinross gets cut off at school time, morning and afternoon.

And it can be a nightmare getting on to Marmion Ave at these times if like me you have to go to work!!

Can't think of much else to say, if you need advice on the area please feel free to ask!

All the best Jane:smile:

Forgot to add that Kinross College is a feeder school for Mindarie Senior College.

BUTLER

we have lived in Butler for 16 months now, we built here. We live 2 min drive to the beach, lovely parks, shops 5 mins by car. Despite it being classed as one of the "little britian" areas we have ozzy neighbours on both sides and lots around us, and lots of brits too. Its a new area and the train line will be coming in the next couple of years. We love it!

Secret Harbour:

We have lived here for 2 years now. It is South of Rockingham but North of Mandurah. It is easy to get to Warnbro train Station and onto the Kwinana Freeway so ideal commuter place.

We have a great Surf beach here and a great golf course too. State swim have a pool here so kids learn to swim from 6 months old.

2 primary schools: Secret Harbour Primary and Comet Bay Primary (this is where 2 of mine attend and I could not rate it any more than I do!!!)

1 Senior College: Comet Bay College...My eldest goes there. It has had its knocks but it is getting there now and I am happy to send my kids there.

Shopping centre: consists of Brumbys the bakers, Hairdresses, News agents, Post office, Surf Shop, Coffee shop, Donut King, Florist, chemist, fashion wear shop, bakers and Woolworths. There are other shops including doctors, realty, fish and chips, chicken treat, pizza shop, bottle shops and the Whistling Kite...our very own pub!!!

Secret Harbour is a family suburb with lots going on. Anyone wanting to play tennis at the week ends...I am the key holder for the courts in Secret Harbour so for $10 an hour you can have a game......contact me!!!!......sorry bit of advertising there!!!

All in all a nice suburb to live in. We won't be going anywhere soon!

Any advise needed just ask away.

Sue

Thanks Sue as I live just down the road from Sue, all the above:) plus there is a lovely cafe down on the foreshore and it does the most amazing food, doesnt look much from the outside but it is lovely. Also the suburb has the must amazing parks one around practically every corner, just lovely.:wubclub:

Rockingham

A 'City', for this read town, about 30 mins south of Perth, old Rockingham is surrounded by beaches, has a great shopping centre and a growing promenade with cafes, bars and coffee shops.

Rockingham covers the suburbs of Warnbro, Waikiki, Safety Bay, Shoalwater, Port Kennedy and even Secret Harbour.

Happy to answer any specific questions about this great suburb.

I am at a total loss as to where to go. NOR or SOR. I have family in SOR who love it, but have friends who are NOR.

We are a family with 2 young children, so want decent schools, somewhere which is quite new (if you can have that), not too far from the beaches and not too far from Perth as that is where my husbands job is.

Could someone throw in names of suburbs located within walking distance of a beach. They all look close to the coast on 'google maps' but not sure if they really are as I'm quickly learning Oz is a big place!!

Shoalwater

Safety Bay

Other suburbs you should look at google maps, here (Rockingham area)anything west of Read Street is pretty close to beach

Hope this helps.

We drive to the beach with our dog every day, but we could walk (about 25 mins) from Rockingham City

Hi everyone, we live in Kalamunda which is located in the Hills part of Perth. We overlook the city which is 30 minutes commute in a car. The areas of the hills are Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Gooseberry Hill, more rural areas are Pickering Brook, Bickley, Carmel Mundaring. We are 15 minutes from the airport. We have an excellent shopping area. With two major supermarkets and speciality shops together with a lovely Ice Cream shop which sells homemade Italian Ice Cream Collodels (its worth a visit). Two Pubs, a large library, a Water Park, Tennis Courts, Gyms. There are two very good state schools Kalamunda Senior High and Lesmurdie SH. There are also some private schools St. Brigids College and Mazenod together with Carmel Christian School and numerous junior schools like Kalamunda, Falls Road, Lesmurdie and Marys Mount and Gooseberry Hill. The blocks tend to be a little larger than newer housing estates. With rural and semi rural blocks mixed together....nearer the centre of Kalamunda is a wide range of elderly units and homes. There is a local hospital here which used to have an Emergency Department. We have two lots of doctors. There is an amatuer theatre here and a performing arts centre. We have annual shows and a market every first saturday of each month and a farmers market every sunday. There is a lovely local park with barbeque areas and Jazz in the Park in Summer months. Carols by Candlelight at Christmas, the Zig Zag festival and many more. We have a bus service that goes into the city and the nearest large shopping complex and cinemas is in Midland which is 15 minutes in a car, there is a train station there also.We are about 30 -40 minutes away from the beach. We have lived here since November 2008 and we love it, wouldnt want to live anywhere else really. Hope this helps!!!

Even beachside suburbs can be quite large and spread out so you could live in a so called beachside suburb but still not be walking distance from the beach, depends on your idea of 'walking distance'! One thing to bear in mind is that its MUCH more affordable to live beachside SOR than NOR.

Some NOR beachside burbs are, and from North to South with the most northerly being cheapest (in general) and getting progressively more expensive the closer you get to the city..... Yanchep, Alkimos, Jindalee, Butler, Quinns Rocks, Mindarie, Iluka, Burns Beach, Ocean Reef, Mullaloo, Kallaroo, Hillarys, Sorrento, North beach, Trigg, Scarborough, City beach, Swanbourne, Cottesloe.

Another thing to bear in mind is that we live within walking distance to the beach but never walk as we have so much stuff to bring with us. Esky, Surf Boards, towels, etc etc etc

But answering the question. Sor you have Rockingham, Safety Bay, Waikiki, Warnbro, Port Kennedy, Secret Harbour, Golden Bay, Singleton, Madora Bay,Silversands, Mandurah, Halls Head. All close to the beach.:jiggy:

Hi all, I've been reading your posts with great interest regarding suburbs, now I'm well lost, we're coming to Pert in Sept 2011, my OH is a Carpenter / Joiner / builder, built many houses, overseen many projects, I'm experienced in childcare areas from 0-19, kids with issues, kids without, with us will be my OH's son a 22yr old qualified level 3 bricklayer but has said he'd like to try working in one of the mine and my 15 yr old son who is above average in school and into rugby with a passion (built like one too). We would also like to consider building our home again so land availability would be something else for us to consider.

From all the research we've done am I right in thinking the Northern areas of Perth offer what we're wanting work wise and school wise, if anyone can shed a little light on this for us we'd be grateful, thank you in advance for any information given.

Suzanne
