Jen78
Hi everyone, Thought it was about time for an update post and a bit of positivity . We passed the 18 month mark on 11th July and things have been going from great to even better. We had a good start to our adventure with hubby getting a job in mining before we came - so there are definitely jobs out there to be had for an English person with no contacts or industry experience. I found myself able to volunteer at my youngest daughter's primary school quite a bit which made me some friends and got me out of the house and busy. Fast forward to February and I found myself handing my cv in at the office of said primary school asking for a chance to work in the office and they gave me a shot! I have just been successful in getting a full time contract for the remainder of the school year which means we have just bought a house!! The last piece of the jigsaw we feel. We should be moving in in just over 4 weeks time and we are all very excited to have something of our own - with the obligatory pool no less! I have to say that moving was the best thing we ever did, we adore it here and are loving every minute. I've made loads of new friends and am socialising and going out a lot more. We are trying to get out as a family more at the weekends for a walk and generally end up at a cafe for a treat of some description. My waistline is a little bigger but my / our happiness more than makes up for it and I promise to do more exercise as soon as it stops raining!! Living so close to a major city has definitely opened up a load of opportunities to see concerts, free entertainment, festivals, pub choirs and painting classes - and we are really embracing life and making the most of it. We have the lifestyle we dreamed of when we were watching Wanted Down Under all those years ago! I fully appreciate that there has been a lot of luck in what we have managed to achieve in a relatively short space of time and I don't for a second take what we have for granted but it has been everything that we hoped it would be and a whole heap more. Moving was always going to be a gamble, and I feel like we won the jackpot. I just wanted to let any newbies or members around from when we first moved know how things can work and that it is sometimes worth going for it and hoping for the best because it can work, and my group of friends include 5 families that have migrated and made a huge success out of it. This also means that there is a renovated 4x2 available in Willetton from mid September $550 pw including a gardener once a month. So if anyone wants / needs or knows anyone that wants / needs a rental soon ish in Willetton let me know, I can pm you photos and rental agent details / application form. Take care for now Jen x 6

lulu2014
Hi Jen I was delighted to read your post as we plan to move out in October & although we believe it is the best thing for us, (family of 4) we are nervous about making such a big move but reading your post has made me feel a lot more contented so thanks for sharing! I am so glad it has worked out for your family Re the rental is there much time left on the lease? We are thinking of an air bnb in the short term but if we could get a short term rental sorted easily before we arrive then that would be fab! I'm not sure that it's even possible to organise a rental without physically being there, we had thought it would be very difficult & that air bnb might be our best option, what did you do on arrival? Jen78
Hi, we got an apartment in Como for the first 2.5 weeks, part holiday part getting everything sorted. Re the lease, once we break ours the lease will refresh and new tenants would have to sign up for a year. If you like I can pm you photos and more details. You can apply from the UK, I've got a copy of the application form too if you want to have a look. You can register your interest with the agent and arrange to see it when you arrive. However its being advertised from next week so chances are it might go before you get here. Let me know if you want more details. Good luck with your final preparations x
lbooth2288
Hi @Jen78 Love, love, love your post! thank you for taking the time to write this. My partner and I are coming over end of October and I had a really bad day yesterday and was second guessing it all but you've just help me shake it off and get my head back in the right place :) Can I ask what your hubby does? And whether you used any specific recruiters etc to get him the role? My fiancee is a chemical engineer so a role in mining is a definite possibility for him. Congrats on the house! you should definitely post some pics on here and make us all uber jealous ;) hope everything goes well with the move. Are you staying in the Willetton area or moving elsewhere? We are looking at SOR suburbs too - would you suggest Willetton as a good area? All the best Lisa x

Good luck with your final preparations x Sorry I've misunderstood I thought it would be a short term lease, I think we will aim to do something similar to what you did & get a rental for a few weeks & hopefully find a lease fairly quickly on arrival, I would say most likely your place will be gone before we get there! It is difficult to decide on an area, we are wanting to go for somewhere that has good daycare facilities for a 2 & 3 year old, perhaps there are good facilities in all suburbs but we don't really know so we haven't got very far on this decision!! We would ideally like to be close to the train line too so I suppose that's why we don't really want signing a year lease but 6 months is probably the shortest we will get, if that is even an option! We have been to Perth before & lived in Bateman for a while which is quite close to where you are (I think?!) so that is why I was interested, it seems like a lovely area :) Thanks for the good wishes :) still lots to do but excited to be finally making the move!! It's normal for a leap of faith this big ey. But you'll be fine. In the end, nothing is permanent, ao don't stress it. louloubelle
So good to read your post, I moved here just a couple of months before you @Jen and remember all the pre moving posts, advice, support, worry etc so to hear how well you have settled is awesome. We will be having our 2 year anniversary in Oct and wouldn’t chance a thing. We have a beautiful house, both have 2 good jobs, kids settled into school, made some fab friends and of course the weather. Love hearing the positive stories
LouLouSkippy
Hey... Not posted on here for a long time.... But some positive from us tooo. Like Louloubelle we have now been in Perth 2 years.... We moved into and brought our own house 6 months into the move... So the 1st year was kinda crazy... The kids settled into Aussie life very quickly but I think it helped being in sports clubs... (Private schooling is definitely the way forward for High school ) We live near to some of the most beautiful beaches Mullaloo. Scraborough to name a few and we have fallen in love with the Perth Hills and Swan Valley. We have made some lovely friends... Including Louloubelle (who we meet through the kids soccer lol...) Live the dream is my advice... Feel free to ask any questions you have....
Horsemad1976
Heading to the Perth Hills ourselves very soon. We're staying with my SIL for a while. We've listed previously so know the area and really like its relaxed 'small community' feel but with the city very easily accessible by train. Very excited!!
