Nurses Thread!

I applied Beginning of October 2014 and still waiting! AHPRA requested my clinical placement hours so I had to pay uni £60 to confirm this!! It's at the final stage now but not sure how much longer. I apologised to the hospital for the delay but they say it's fine it's a long process and it won't effect my employment contract. Relief!!

I can't go anywhere until I have registration then the hospital can nominate me for sponsorship and I can lodge my visa. Hurry up AHPRA !!

Thanks for the tips peeps...have just printed off the paperwork so will get it sorted and sent off! Just need to get my documents certified. Such a stressful process as so much to do. My line manager is also being really slack on the reference for ANMAC so that is holding us up as can't send my application until she has done it! fingers crossed she's not much longer as hoping to be in Oz by November time :-)

I have just got my head around the fact, that I will most likely not be able to work once we arrive. Our back up was that I could always be the main earner if the Chap did not find work asap, But now with the new diploma/degree rules, I may need to just accept that I will have to work in something else, or till I can get it sorted and magic up a degree/conversion/bridging course out of the bag.

Boo hiss to RED tape. Maybe a train as a barrista??? beach bum, wave watcher.....

Yeah we are in a similar position...my OH is a plasterer and if he can't secure work asap I'll just do some agency. Sorry to hear that loopylauren....absolutely agree that it sucks!! I would of happily done the diploma training but as I only started my training 4 years ago they were only offering degree courses in Children's Nursing so my mind was made up for me...the degree was much less funding!! The bursary in comparison was shocking! You must be devastated! To favour a newly qualified nurse over a diploma trained nurse with years of experience seems utter madness so I do feel for you! Is there any chance of a bridging course when you arrive? When are you making the move?

Oh thanks for the tip...I'll wait it out another week or so and then i'll try the alternative :-) also does anyone know if you need to fly into Oz to activate your Aphra registration? It says if you can only provide passport as ID you need to deliver it in person to register once everything has been processed?!

Any help appreciated

Does anyone know if ANMAC are still giving positive skills assessments to diploma nurses? I am doing my degree top up for APHRA but I'd really like to get my skills assessment done and get the visa as I'm paranoid there will be some major change with regards to nurses and visas and il miss out yet again! I know I need my degree for APHRA but what about ANMAC? Thanks

Hi all, My name is Helen. I am a qualified Adult nurse, specialising in oncology/haematology. Currently doing a top-up degree...and have absolutely no clue where to start with my application. Will be doing this move alone, but unsure where to start. Do you think it would be best to just get the degree out of the way first, OR are there things I can be doing in mean time to get things started??

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Hi helenkate I am also doing my top up at the mo. I have gathered all information for Anmac skills assessment which is something u could be doing in the mean time, also sit your ielts test as that is needed for Anmac. Then once this is complete I believe u can apply for expression of interest x

Ahhh no way!! well good luck!!

I have just been doing some reading...if I gather all my documents for assessment will they be saved, if sent until needed when application is submitted? Also if I send documents of qualification now....my degree won't be included will it? Surely I will need to finish this first?

(sorry about all the questions!) x

I am in my final year of the adult nursing degree and although I will be a newly qualified Registered Nurse I am in my mid forties so time is not on my side.

I am going to an expo in Manchester in October and will have my pin in March 2016.

When will I be able to apply for jobs,I want to work in the community and have already been offered a job in the community when qualify in England, so by the time all paper work etc is ready I will have at least a year under my belt.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Annique. xx

We are staying in Madora Bay and we shall be looking at all different areas, jobs, houses etc no hopefully it will change hubby's mind to make the move ova.

Hi all not been on here for a while. I came out to Perth but as I had to commit to 12 mths rental for schools and 1 child in UK not wanting to leave and one in Perth wanting to return I had to return. I had a job set up at Hollywood should have started 4 th may. Had to let them down to keep family together! Gutted gutted gutted!!!!! Returned and been sad since. My kids are 17, 15 and 14 the 14 yr old wanted to stay so much. My brother gets married in August and I'm bridesmaid. So I always had to return for that. Just wished things would have worked out. All that work to get there!!

Hollywood said they will re recruit if kids change minds.

I would love to try again and I'm 40 now so I'm hoping they will see sense and get out of Wigan. I never presented to ahpra in person and it runs out February hope it's still valid. Also my Nmc runs out sept and I'm newly qualified and not started nursing as was waiting to do preceptorship in Perth. Would I have to have Nmc registration of I have ahpra registration? Not sure if to get job here nursing or stay bank HCA and hope they will go in August after wedding. Don't want my dream to end [emoji17] xx

Hello, sorry to hear about your initial plans not happening - harder I guess when children are older. I would get registered with both NMC and AHPHA and maintain both unless u definitely know where ubwill stay fir the rest of ur working life. X I have and maintain both - we plan on flying over end of this year to perth. Have ur children said they will be willing to give it a go?? X

Bless ya,. I remembered you stating you had issues with kids etc. You poor thing. I hope it works itself out. I would also get registered here and get some time under you belt, won't do you any harm to get started here and get experience. Also try to remain wit APHRA too, you don't want to have to go through that hidious rigmarole again!

Hi everyone, i am in year 2 of a 3 year Adult Nursing Degree so will qualify in 2017 and was wondering if anyone has any advice/info for me on the process of applying for visas to emigrate to Perth?

Myself and Hubby are 39yrs old at present with 3 children age 16, 13 & 8. We want to move ASAP so would be hoping to apply once i qualify. Can anyone please help advise us with the process? Also am i right in saying that a newly qualified nurse needs 3 months on the job experience before they can apply or even start the application process?

Thank you for any info you can give.

There are two things that you will need - one is to register with AHPRA and the other is to get a skills assessment. You will need some experience to pass the skills assessment. I would also recommend to all newly qualified to get some experience as it will stand you in good stead for the competitive job market - as I new graduate you will be up against Australian trained nurses and experience may be the thing that gets you the job. There is also a graduate programme here in Aus, the last few years they've struggled to find placements for all graduates, but it's certainly something to keep in mind as I do know of someone who got into the grad programme a few years ago.

The other thing to be mindful of is that rules and visa's do change with alarming regularity.

Hello!

My name is Louise, using my partner Craig's account :)

I've been a qualified nurse now for nearly two years working as a scrub nurse in orthopaedic theatres. My partner and I have always wanted to go to Australia and now that his job in the oil and gas industry is at risk, its pushing us to just go for it!

Just wanting to know which visa I/we should go for?

Ive looked at a working holiday visa but wonder if I could work as a nurse with that visa??

You can work as a nurse on a WHV. Are you degree qualified?

You would need to look at getting your registration started asap as it can take some time.

You should also be aware that there is no guarantee of getting work as a nurse - there is still some recruitment freeze for the public health system

Hi Louise

I also work as a nurse in theatres in the UK and would be interested to know whether you decided to go to Australia and if so, how are you finding it?
